Samba wins gold with Asian Games record, Mubarak silver; handball team in finals
It was a good day for Qatari athletes at the 2018 Asian Games today as two of them won medals and the handball team entered the finals of the quadrennial tournament.
Qatar’s 400M hurdler Abderrahman Samba burned the tracks as he blazed to the gold medal with a new Asian Games record time.

Samba, who was the firm favourite, won the title in 47.66sec, erasing the old time of 48.42sec. India’s Dharun Ayyasamy ran a personal best time of 48.96sec to finish second while Japan’s Takatoshi Abe was third (49.12).

Qatar’s second medal in track and field came in the 3,000M steeplechase, when Yasser Mubarak finished second in 8min 29.42sec. He finished behind Iran’s Hossein Keyhani, who set a new Games record of 8:22.79 and ahead of Japan’s Kazuya Shiojiri (8:29.42).
Handball team in finals, assures gold or silver
Defending champions Qatar entered the finals of the men’s handball after beating South Korea 27-20 in an engaging semifinal match. Qatar will face either Japan or Bahrain in the final on Friday.
