Shafallah terminate 13 employee contracts abruptly
The Shafallah Centre has terminated 13 employee contracts, including citizens, and gave them one day to return all office property and collect end-of-service benefits.
Some of the employees had been with the centre for about 14 years and were stunned by the action, according to a report on The Peninsula.
Some of the terminated employees were asking authorities to intervene and restore them to their positions, especially as the decision comes ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The center that provides education and healthcare to children with disabilities will be looking to offload more employees soon.
Authorities of the institution defended the decision, saying some of the sacked staff did not have proper documents required for their jobs.
“We are taking care of children with disabilities and we have to ensure that all staff are highly qualified and effective in handling them,” the daily quoted Mohammed Badr Al Sada, Director-General, as saying.
He said the centre has 850 employees and removing a few would not affect the functioning of the centre or the performance of the students.
Was it right for the center to sack these employees on such a short notice? We would like to know what you think?
Paladin, maybe they had a change in management, the last one was incompetent and now only the new people in charge saw the problems.
A month notice + end of service benefits + noc will be just fine. Highly qualified? yeah tell this to the person who hired them!
It's quoted"Some of the employees had been with the centre for about 14 years....." and ...we have to ensure that all staff are highly qualified and effective in handling them,”. It takes more than a century before they found out the competency of the workers? It's truly unjust!
Even a week's notice would have been fine as well. You don't know what kind of retaliation they would do if they still have a month left at work. I believe they might have been people who were employed because of connections. With the type of work they are involved in, qualification is very important.
ok, retrenching people is not the problem but the way its been done.
As Zafriah said at least a month notice would have been fair.
