The Ministry of Economy and Commerce raided seven shops selling sand tyres or balloon tyres that do not conform to the required specifications.

The ministry's inspectors seized 63 bad tyres from the shops during an inspection campaign covering more than 20 shops selling tyres on Salwa Road.

The ministry said that the shops had violated the consumer protection law, which prohibits the sale or promotion of fake commodities or substandard or expired commodities.

The ministry officials seized all the bad tyres and the violating shops were given penalties ranging from temporarily closure to a monetary fine in accordance with the rules and laws of the consumer protection department.

The ministry has also started naming shops that are closed due to violations of the consumer protection law, according to The Peninsula.

The ministry also announced the requirements to be observed while importing and selling tyres in the country. The sale of balloon tyres is banned as they put people's lives at risk.

The tyres are behind most of the accidents on the roads and they cannot handle excessive heat or high speeds.

Balloon tyres overheat at high speeds and do not stop instantly when brakes are applied at a high speed, the ministry said.

The ministry warned all suppliers and traders of all products to stop selling anything that would harm the safety and health of consumers.

if they're banned, then how are they being allowed into the country and how am i seeing 1000 horsepower landcruisers speeding on these balloon tires and while still running the stock brakes?
