Starting July 1, Fahes to double fees for technical inspection of different vehicles

If your vehicle is approaching its annual check up date, then you had better hurry or risk dishing out extra money for the same.

Fahes, which carries out annual technical inspection of vehicles for renewal of your vehicle’s registration (istimara), will charge double the current fees starting July 1, reported The Peninsula.

Inspection fee for a private passenger car at the Fahes centre will double from QR75 to QR150 from next month. The fee for motorcycle inspection will be QR100, which was earlier QR50.

“Starting July 1, the fees for inspection of private car will double to QR150 from the current QR75. Announcements regarding increase of registration fee was already made through Twitter and on the website as well,” said an official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to Qatar Tribune.

The official said the decision to increase the fee was taken to cover the huge cost incurred on building state-of-the-art facilities at all Fahes inspection centres. 

He said all centres have a minimum of three to four lanes for inspection which adds to the cost for the company as it requires more manpower, electricity and other infrastructure. 

The official said earlier, inspections were carried out in open spaces and there were hardly any facilities for drivers who had to wait long hours in the sun to get their cars inspected. 

“Ever since vehicle inspections started at Woqod, things have become very different. The company has invested a lot in inspection centres by increasing the number of lanes for inspection, offering insurance facilities and one can even renew their registration (istaimara). So, if all these facilities are offered, I think it’s fair to increase the price,” the official told Qatar Tribune.
