Tarsheed helps cut power and water consumption
The ongoing National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency — Tarsheed — has achieved success in reducing per capita electricity and water consumption by 14% and 17% respectively, reported The Peninsula.
The programme has saved about QR800m since its launch until 2015, also reducing carbon dioxide emissions and consumption of gases.
Under the patronage of Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is going to mark the fourth annual celebration of Tarsheed on Sunday at Sheraton Doha.
The celebration will be held under the theme ‘Tomorrow starts Today’ in partnership with Aamal and Doha Cables.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani will attend the event, along with Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Kahramaa President Engineer Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Kahramaa and other dignitaries.
Kahramaa is also expected to announce further strategies, projects and achieved targets for the ongoing programme, which aims at rationalising consumption of water and electricity and intensifying the culture of conservation of vital resources in Qatar.
The main target of Tarsheed is to reduce per capita water and electricity consumption by 35% and 20%, respectively, by 2017.
