Traffic department release list of fines for traffic violations

Qatar Living
By Qatar Living

The traffic department has issued a list of 30 violations that attract varying fines for light vehicles, with provision for seizure of vehicle in at least three of them.

These violations are, namely, drink driving, using language or symbol which is against public decency and hit-and-run incident.

The fines range from QR300 to QR6,000 and not all the 30 violations lead to demerit points to one's driver's licence.

Wherever applicable, only three to seven demerit points are to be added. A new list of violations has been released after a new traffic law was issued recently.

Jumping the red light continues to attract the maximum fine: QR6,000 and seven demerit points. Not listening to the police and stopping your car attracts similar fine and points' addition.

Some of the violations that are new include motorists talking while driving and watching TV while behind the steering wheel.

While for talking the fine is QR300, for watching TV it is QR500, and driving in opposite direction (in direction not allowed by the traffic law) attracts a fine of QR6,000 plus six demerit points.

Jumping a road divider and taking a U-turn also attracts a fine of QR6,000 and three demerit points. A motorist not giving way to a police car or ambulance is to be slapped a fine of QR500.

Drivers who like to idle away time particularly at night need to be careful as driving at slow speeds without a valid reason is also an offence punishable with a fine of QR300.

Overtaking from the right side and not using the seat belt are both punishable with a fine of QR500 each.

And making a child (under-10 years of age) sit on the front seat while the car is in motion is an offence too and carries a fine of QR500, Al Sharq reported yesterday.

And the fine is QR1,000 for a motorist who does not remove vehicle from a spot after a minor accident. A similar fine awaits those who drive a car without switching its headlights on at night. [The Peninsula]

Any idea, if any fine for farting in the Car, someone in the car can fart with a dangerous gas that can suffocate the driver resulting a possible damage or accident.

I think it depends on shefeeqcs' salary. If he earns QR 100,000 per month he will give a damn for two QR 500,- fines and he will NOT change his attitude.

All above new violations being mentioned here is still normal around doha, most especially driving while using smart phones, overtaking from rightside, tailgating & flashing headlights to get you out of their way though maximum speed is 80kph. The driver behavior is the most important in addition to their mental stability. High fine is not enough.

that's is also my U-turn area everytime coming out from villagio parking. so far, I never receive a txt messages from metrash. :) one time, I saw a police car parked exactly on that road separator. while almost everyone don't dare to make U-turn. an Arabic man on his Lexus completely ignore the patrol car and still made a U-turn. so i'm not also sure if it is legal or not there. But for the separator/island, its a hundred % illegal because there is one instances while i'm under at the jaidah flyover R/A. police are controlling the flow, one LC made his 2-wheels(driver side) ramp-up on the island to pass other vehicles. the police noticed his move and simply input the plate number on his device (looks like walkie-talkie).

ljreyes18: when Villagio first opened, and before the new traffic lights were installed near Future Medical, the police would sit in the carpark of the Aspire park and give everyone who did a u-turn a 500 riyal fine. But they stopped and haven't been back for years. I'm not sure either whether doing a u-turn on this stretch of road is technically illegal???

Thank goodness for the "talking" fine. Now Mrs Expat will have to drive quietly

well most of the listed traffic violations are done by locals , and are ignored by traffic police. Any solutions for this???? Expats are very careful and follow traffic rules .

almost 80% of accidents are caused by using cell phones,.i say there must be hefty penalties for those using cellphones while driving

Between villaggio and geant store there's a small road from where we can go to/from villaggio or asprire zone... is that a road divider? because motorists like me are always using it for making a turn =)

^^^" ovulation " is the event when the eggs of the driver becomes hot while sitting and driving, he has now a tendency of releasing it to be fertilized by getting a traffic violation, which is by overtaking at the right side. :))

By chameleon• 21 Apr 2015 19:34

What does "ovulation" have to do with traffic violations? :P

Defiant ion of overtaking from right side needs to understand.in technical driving in right lane at defined speed and overtaking left side motor is not an offense or violation any where.it is more appropriate to say rough overtaking from right side is a ovulation or driving inside hard yellow lane is a violation.

Isn't overtaking from the right technically called undertaking?

Overtaking from the right side !!! This violation should be monitored and fined on the spot

Haha Knor....I better stop singing while driving then :)

By knor• 21 Apr 2015 15:58
knor

maybe chameleon. if my interpretation of talking is correct,(that it is not allowed to talk while driving) how much more is the singing. :) arrggghhhhh! drivers now will be getting bad breath. and for those who already have, this now a good excuse not to talk. :))

By chameleon• 21 Apr 2015 15:50
chameleon

Drink driving??? haha...What about singing while driving? Is that a violation as well?

By knor• 21 Apr 2015 15:30
knor

how about driving while taking out a bogger from his nose?

in serious note...."talking" is confusing...is it talking to your passenger or talking on a phone or talking to your self alone? if talking to your self, maybe a psychologist is in need when the police stop that motorist.
