#WeAreQatar: Paint your faces, prepare the posters and show your support for Qatar against South Korea today
Qatar has a final, even though mathematical, chance to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
In a do-or-die match, they will take on South Korea at the Al Sadd Stadium at 10pm today.
While it is a match of huge significance for the national team, it is also a perfect venue to show that #WeAreQatar and we stand with the national team.
As this is going to be a widely televised event, this is a great opportunity to show boycotting countries that no matter what, #WeStandWithQatar. So come to the stadium with your faces painted in Annabi colours, and posters supporting Qatar held high.
The game itself promises to be very exciting. This is Qatar’s eighth Group A match and they will be hoping that the pitch and fans will help turn the result in their way.
Qatar coach Jorge Fossati acknowledged that the task ahead was tough, but not nigh impossible.
“Our chances are low, not impossible. Maybe after the game, we can speak more about the future. But now I want to focus on the game. The players want to give their best for the country, irrespective whether it’ll be our first or last game,” he said.
“We recognise the quality of our opponents. They’ve many players in good leagues in Europe. But I’ve confidence in my players that they’ll do a good job. That’s essential if we want to beat a high-level opponent like South Korea,” Gulf Times quoted him as saying during the pre-match Press conference.
Qatari players were confident that the game would add a lot to their experience ahead of major tournaments in the future.
“The match against South Korea will be a good platform to prepare for the home World Cup in 2022,” Abdulkarim Hassan, who scored Qatar’s first goal in the 2-2 draw in the friendly against North Korea on June 6, told The Peninsula.
“We’ll focus on getting the basics right against them. For instance, our full-backs, including me, will have to be careful as they’ve very speedy wingers who can take advantage of the space if we make overlapping runs. The collective experience of playing against such teams will be significant as the team prepares for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”
Qatar currently has four points in the group and are placed bottom. Iran has already qualified for the Russian World Cup and South Korea, if they defeat Qatar, can move one step closer. Qatar has three matches left and if they win all three, they will get a chance to be engaged in a play-off against the fourth-placed team in the CONCACAF region.
