In a year, vegetable prices in Qatar drop by 12%, fruits by 4%
The prices of vegetables and fruits in the local market have fallen by 12% and 4% respectively over the past one year.
A report released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce said there was no change in vegetable prices and fruit prices rose by 1% in May compared to April.
The central vegetable market received 11.047 tonnes of vegetables and 4,248 tonnes of fruits in May.
The report said the main sources of fruits were Egypt followed by India, France, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. Vegetables were mainly supplied by India, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, China, and the local market.
The report provided prices of vegetables and fruits for May and April and said the prices of most vegetables dropped compared to last year and the prices of some fruits remained the same due a drop in supply.
The report said fish prices in the local market dropped by 1% in May compared to the same month last year and six percent in April.
