QRCS continues to support Gaza hospitals with various resources
The Qatar Red Crescent Society's (QRCS) mission in Gaza together with Palestine's Ministry of Health continues to implement the Gaza Specialized Surgeries Support Project.
Under the project, medical experts are hired to provide surgical and various other medical services to the people of Gaza.
The QRCS mission in Gaza is running the program with a total budget of $1.4 million (QR 5,103,000).
One of the main goals of the project is to support the health system in Gaza and ensure the availability of high-quality medical as well as surgical services. This is in addition to building staff capacity at health facilities under blockade.

At least 18,000 patients benefit from this program every year, in addition to local medical professionals, QRCS highlighted.
Executive Director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi said, "an executive agreement was signed with MOH as a beneficiary and partner. Our mission there worked together with MOH to nominate the consultant physicians to be hired under the project and identify their respective tasks.
"Some already contracted physicians under the previous health system support project were re-contracted, to preserve the merits and targets of the project."
The experts taken aboard the project began their work at different hospitals in Gaza. The specialties these experts covered comprise cardiothoracic surgery, urology, pulmonology, cardiology, anesthesia, cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, and plastic surgery.
As many as 3,786 surgical interventions were performed during the project with 14,128 outpatient consultations provided. Additionally, 156 injured victims of the recent war on Gaza were treated as part of this program.
Qatar has spared no effort in supporting Palestine over the years, be it in the form of providing monetary aid, rebuilding houses, extending medical support, or advocating for the Palestinian cause at various international meetings.
As the world fights the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, Qatar has routinely stepped up to offer assistance to the sisterly State of Palestine.
Earlier in February, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani gave directives to provide a financial grant of $360 million to the residents of the Gaza Strip for the year 2021.
