Seatbelt violations to be imposed on drivers, front-seat passengers
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) issued a clarification regarding seat belt traffic violations on Monday.
The MoI, in its social media channel, said a violation would be registered against drivers and front-seat passengers if traffic patrols or surveillance cameras found them not wearing seat belts.
Seat belt violations are enforced for both the driver and the front seat passenger when detected by traffic patrols and surveillance cameras, in accordance with Article (54) of Traffic Law No. (19) of 2007. #MOIQatar #TrafficQatar pic.twitter.com/WC6yKhrsYP

Last September, the General Directorate of Traffic started automated monitoring of traffic violations for unbuckled seat belts and use of mobile phones while driving. A unified radar system, connected to all radars and road CCTV cameras across the country, is being used to monitor such traffic violations and ensure safety for all.
The Ministry further added that it was in accordance with Article (54) of Traffic Law No. (19) of 2007, which mandates that both the driver of a motor vehicle and front seat passenger must wear seat belts while the vehicle is in motion on the road.
The clarification follows new traffic rules recently unveiled by the Ministry regarding traffic fine payments, exit permits for vehicles, payment of traffic fines, and designating lanes for taxis, limousines, and motorcycles for delivery vehicles.
