American Immigration and Family Lawyer

Hi all,

I'm in the line-up for a job in Qatar. My husband is an American Immigration and Family (i.e. Family: divorce, child custody, etc) lawyer who is licensed in New York and 2 Federal circuits.

We were both in Doha for my interview visit and he spoke with a law consultant office but they represent British law.

Though we know that his specialties are of no use in Qatar, he has a little experience in personal bankruptcy and U.S. land use laws. He's open to venturing into other legal specialties. As such, we guess he'd have to be hired as an entry level position.

What are the best sectors to apply in that will be as good a sponsor as Qatar Foundation? One of our fears is that his employer won't be as good as my potentially future employer and when transferring to be under my husband's sponsorship we won't get as nice a deal such as: a multi-entry visa, keeping our passports (as opposed to his employer keeping them), accommodation, etc.

Thanks ahead of time for your answers.

There are plenty of international law firms here, who work with the QFC. Google that.

But won't I have to fall under my husband's sponsorship if he gets hired outside of QF?

You do NOT want to give up your sponsorship at an American university. If your husband is hired as a "local hire" chances are he won't be offered housing, etc. Check the websites of each of the American universities for job possibilities.
