Female Paramedics

Hi,

I'm new to the site, from Australia, my first post, but have been looking at stuff on here for quite a while and I'm really impressed with the knowledge and friendliness of members...

Anyway, I am currently in the process of gaining employment as a paramedic in Qatar. However, the question is not regarding me, it's my wife. She is also a fully qualified paramedic and would obviously be travelling with me. I read on Al Jazeera that there are female paras in Qatar mainly due to the possiblity of some cases involving females being delicate, but I have found little more info on this. Are you guys aware of this? Do they hire western paramedics or only Qataris? Anyone know of any company/government contacts? If you have any further info please let me know, as my wife is really looking forward to going but doesn't know how she would go not working in her trained field for 3 or more years.

Oh, I heard Saudi is on the lookout for them, so I would be surprised if the more liberal Qatar is not... but anyway. Sorry for the lengthy question.

Cheers,
Mark

Instructor huh? Hmmmm, I better be nice to you mate, you might end up training me!

Will send you an email soon - let me know if you hear anything about female paras, as I'm still a bit in the dark on that subject.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Tweety.

Just to confirm, I am aware they hire western men paramedics as I am in the process, but are you aware if they hire **western** female paramedics? I am worried if they do not, as I'm not sure what the wife could do as it's her only qualification.

Anyway, thanks again.

I took First Aid/CPR training at Hamad from a female parametic. She was dressed in the National attire so I am assuming she was Qatari. Very impressive young lady. As for Westerners being hired - I would say that is a yes as I have seen them. I hope this helps.
