Female Software Engineer moving to Qatar
Hello,
My husband just got a teaching job in Doha, and I will be moving with him next summer from Canada.
How are the job opportunities in Qatar? I'm a Software Engineer, P.Eng, with 7 years experience.
How is the pay there for a programming job (not IT)?
How is the "work/life" balance? (I have young children.)
Is it easy for a female to find a position (I've seen job postings specifying males only).

I doubt that being female significantly disadvantages you unless of course the working environment specifically suits men more than women.
In general, it is difficult for spouses to secure good jobs after they move to Doha. Jobs are hard to come by, salaries remain lower than for those who are under the company's sponsorship and accompanying packages tend to be less generous. That said, you would be covered by your husband's employer/sponsor for private medical cover, school fees, annual vacation tickets and others so you would not need much on this front. And of course you can change jobs whenever you wish to do so.
Qatar is a racist in terms of salary bracket... they will give the salary based on nationality and your qualifications is just on second.
