Hello People...after 3 months of applying to jobs in Qatar...I'm not getting any reply..even not getting phone calls...I'm a RECENT graduate in Mechanical Engineering...but I have professional experience in three companies, all being in the field of Mechanical Engineering..I know English, Arabic and French and my computer skills are almost perfect...I just want to ask..is there a lack of opportunities in Qatar related to the global recession..because as far as I know, Qatar is one of the less affected countries by the recession...can you help me please identify my problems..and maybe you can show me an effective way to get a job there..I'm Lebanese by the way and working now in Syria

The main problem is that the companies here in your field, simply don't have time to put into training staff. Most training is focused on the local residents already here. On-the-job training means that someone has to supervise you & most companies simply don't have the spare manpower to do this.

Only suggestion I have would be to choose something out of your skills category that you are good at & enjoy. Re-do your CV so that it's not so focused on your needing to grow & develop over the whole discipline - but rather emphasise a particular interest & capability in that narrower area that you have. Look for jobs that match & you may find someone prepared to "give you a shot"

check you CV.. might be something wrong with your CV. the first impression over CV is very important. I never read CV which is longer than 3 pages. I put aside the CV if I cannot find the necessary information right away, in the convenient place, such as years of experience, main areas of expertise, and main strengths of the person. I am not going to flow through 6-7-8 pages in order to catch out the info that i need. one has to know what to highlight in his/her CV.

May be the way you are sending your CV is not too good. Once I received the CV, and noticed that he sent this CV to 5-6 companies at once, and every address of each company was visible in the "To:" line of the e-mail. It looked so unprofessional and disrespectful. I even didn't open his CV. He might be the best accountant in the world, but he is untactful person, and simply unprofessional. I would never hire him.

I agree with you Qatarisun that it's a problem, but I was working part-time with multinational companies (KONICA and CIAT)...I hold training certificates from those companies...I worked between 5 to 10 hours a day..even at exams...won't this experience pay?

i think your "recent graduation" is the problem. For instance, currently we are hiring an accountant. i personally automatically put aside CV's if the applicant has less than 3-4 years of experience. We need someone who will maintain all accounting stuff with minimum supervising....Well, I can help, but I have no time for it... we need someone to push US instead of us to push HIM....

Qatar is not the best place to start your career...

one time i read your question also about finding work here bro. recession is not a problem here in Qatar, Dubai has more chances of being affected because their economy also relies on tourism. and tourism may have a chance being unstable. While here in Qatar, primary source of income is thru oil.. Plenty of oil to refine and export...

what are your methodologies of job hunting? internet only? walk in? try the power also of Gulf times bro. it can help. with your qualifications being impressive, I dont think that you will not find any work here. Good luck dude! I hope I had been a help.
