Intelligent British Man Seeks Work

My partner is a Solicitor in the UK and we both are keen to move to Qatar. I have got a job and single sponsorship but now my partner needs to find something for 2 main reasons:- 1) he cannot NOT work - he would be unbearable! 2) he needs a visa.
We are discovering that he is either over qualified for many roles but not with the right experience for many of the big legal roles. We cannot stress enough that this is not about finding a job for money and therefore does not have to be in the legal profession! He is an extremely intelligent, down to earth, friendly, personable (and of course, lovely!) man but he needs to work.
If anyone has any suggestions whatsoever (or job offers) for an intelligent, hardworking, articulate, multi skilled, honest man, please please let us know. Thank-you!

Alison, tell your partner to check out, www.gulftalent.com and www.bayt.com, so he could apply for any position in Qatar that suits his qualifications. Good luck on your move to Doha!

Yes, as alison mentioned, you can sponsor him once you get your resident's permit(that is, if you are legally married).

Keep looking for work from there. People hired locally get significantly lower salary than the ones hired from their home country.

I understand that this job is not just for money for him but sooner or later it becomes the main issue.

If any job will do,shouldn't be too hard to find something, but might be easier if you come first, start working & make contacts, this town functions largely on personal contacts & yes as other QL'ers have posted,he can come here & get a visa on arrival after you've come & semi-settled,maybe set up a bunch of interviews,it will take some doing but i don't foresee it as being too hard, this lot have a HUGE 'colonial hangover' as we call it in India! so that will definitely work in your favour...good luck!...

Solicitor and Honest ? :o)

Legal positions do come up, but they are few. The best option is to keep looking through the journals / ads. He can come here on a visit visa, but would find it difficult unless he / you have contacts to help you.

Good luck!

Contact Simmons & Simmons they may have an open position, and its a British Run law office.

Other than that keep sending his CV out, best to get the direct contacts of the CEO / HR Managers and send direct!

Or as other people have mentioned, he can get a visit visa on arrival with a British Passport which is for 30 days, however can be extended.

Good Luck.

Baazigar is bitter because he is feels he is underpaid/unemployed because of his race, when it is really because of his general incompetence. It means he cannot afford sleeves for his QL user pic.

Both of you can always come on a visitor visa (UK citizens can get visas on arrival) and look around. If you are married, he can obtain a residence visa when you do. If you are not legally married, it would be better to do that BEFORE moving to Qatar, because partner benefits always require a copy of the marriage certificate.

If you have a job here, its evident that sooner or later you will have a residence permit. Based on that you can bring him here on visit visa and let him try his luck.

Try to bring him here on a business visa and he can look for jobs.
