Inshort, strictly NO....

Earn as much as you can till your last stay in QATAR..Later pack your bag and go back to your country to have much better life than spending your hard earned money for INVESTMENT/PROPERTY business in DOHA..

Colleague of mine bought an apartment in Lusail "off plan" and 3 years down the road it simply isnt going to be built. He has subsequently reached retirement age and my company have done him a favour by extending his sponsorship in Qatar in an effort to support him in trying to extract whatever money he has already coughed up to the Contractor for his piece of fresh air 200 feet up above the Qatari landscape - needless to say the contractor is unkeen (to say the least) to part with a single Riyal and now he is trying to negotiate taking one of their Dubai apartments in exchange.....

Leave well alone in Qatar imho.

You also have to look at the long term future post gas. Will they be able to diversify they economy and provide long term opportunites for expats if not citizenship? Will they allow the entertainment industry to expand to cater for people of different cultures?

Big questions, no answers yet

Too many residential buildings being built, not enough influx of expats, atleast the ones who can afford to buy them. Prices should crash, not advisable to buy the property.

until the Real Estate market becomes regulated and the govt make some clear cut regulations for ex-pats then it just makes it a gamble to buy property here....

Good question. If you get kicked out and not allowed back in what happens?

Raven1968...have you aways been a negative, sad, gloomy person or is this a recent affliction since living in Qatar? Enlighten us, tell us why Qatar won't win the 2022 world cup?

I would agree with almost all posts here, the current local property market is sluggish at the moment. If you’re still keen to invest in the region, I’d say check out Dubai. Forget what you read in the media, you’ll find good prices for completed units in good locations.

I am with LP on that :)

better buy something in your own country, no matter what country it is, it's still better than to invest in qatar.

First of all, why to buy for such ridiculous prices? Instead of 1 BR "apartment" in Pearl, which is rather tiny little box, quality of which will turn out to be sucks anyway, I'd better buy huge house with huge backyard plus some fancy car in my country, for same money...

hafthab345 what property boom are you talking about? Are you that deluded that you think we are in one or one is approaching? Man wake up from your DREAM!! There is far more supply than demand with only more properties been built....we all know Qatar WON'T win the 2022 WC so thats not going to affect anything. The banks are still NOT lending at the moment despite what the papers are saying so where are the buyers going to come from? As ex-pats we have very little rights if any, and the property boom is long gone so anyone thinking of investing here is either very brave or a mug!

You must be an idiot to invest a single cent in Qatar.

Stay well clear mate. The prices are going to nose-dive, the supply far exceeds the demand.

i think with the current property boom comingup in qatar specially at the end of 3rd quater of 2010 in qatar it will be a wise desicion to invest and then sell it when the boom almost reach its peak level and the extra profit you make out of it will help you to invest in some other place in this world where one can enjoy more freedom but still long term investment in the property sector in qatar may not be so wise decsion (nobody know when the law changes in qatar, they keep changing the law based on there interest)

I wonder when is that going to happen (to obtain the strata title) and why it is taking so long. I hope we can have the answer one day, Insha Ahlah.

Now is the best time to invest in Qatar specially in the main projects like the Pear and Lusail. Prices are already starting to rise according to real estate experts. Furher more ifQatar gets the 2022 World Cup bid you can just imagine what will happen!!. In 2006 when qatar hosted the Asian games prices almost doubled overnight.Having said the the above it is always good to be careful.

The residency permit application procedure cannot start until the buildings have been strata titled by the developers. Just ask UDC. Owners have taken their keys and have moved in or rented their units out in the knowledge that the residency process cannot yet proceed. The nay sayers re investing in Qatar are not looking long term.

Ask yourself what legal protection and rights you have as a non Qatari and then look at the financial side
