Jobs for Americans

By suzbhaloua

Hello All,

I hear about so many Americans working in Qatar and wonder how I can I be one of those. I've been submitting resumes left and right with no response or luck. Please offer me any thoughts on how to obtain a position in Qatar.

Thank you and best regards!

Hi Suzy! Americans in Qatar tend to have very specific and sought-after positions, i.e., PhDs, MDs, certifications in specialized teaching, etc. That's part of what gives the impression Americans are highly paid - these are the highly paid jobs in the US also and there's usually a bonus for overseas work. If you have an occupation that is common, say IT or HR, you will be competing with literally millions of Asians who will underbid you significantly. Most Americans I know in Qatar were recruited by "headhunters" if that gives you an indication of the kinds of jobs available for you. Good luck!

Wow, you all are a rough crowd!j/k. I appreciate everyone's honesty good or bad. I am not here to look for favorable responses and if I can visualize myself living there then I'd rather have an idea of what I might look forward to as far as mix crowd of personalities. But then again, that is what you deal with everywhere you go lol.

Oh and by the way I am not latin, my name is Suzy and I'm married to a Tunisian.

suzbhaloua, I guarantee you when you come to Doha you will not be surrounded by THOSE kind of people. Tutor1 is leaving in a week time.

suzbhaloua,

this is the kind of people you will be surrounded with when you come here lol. One dude saying search engine, use your common sense, even after you clearly stated that you did apply through the net... another not convinced you are American with your nick name even though this has no relevance to your question lol ....very Good salary true, but everything has a price my friend..

I am not discouraging you, you might like it, but prepare to meet the most unique people on the planet in here lol..

I cam here for a visit and job opportunity, but i am leaving to dubai in a week before i shoot myself in the head heheh

To answer your question: you might wanna come apply from here, Internet infrastructure and HR roles are not very well applied in here.. it is not like the US.. You have to meet someone and go directly to the company present yourself..( this is from my experience here )

Your resume should be less than 34 pages unless you are a prominent research professor.

You can also submit your resume to energy companies. Each one of them have their own credit department. Target Qatar Petroleum and its subsidiaries. Qatalum has a few open positions in Treasury Finance.
