Does anyone have a contact at the Ministry of Environment. I am in need of a CITES Certificate to export an African Grey.

Can I just say how fantastic I think you are! You are so right that the Souk has some very sad birds and to think that one is going to be a pet for life has made my day! Bless you, a wonderful person and an example to all pet lovers in Doha

That's strange - they've always helped us with CITES certificates in the past and have always been really helpful. Who did you speak to?

Contact Janet at Qatar Pet Relocators and see if she can help.

Thanks for you input. Unfortunately, I have contacted them and they are just not interested in helping me. I just can't believe they do this. These birds are kept in unsatisfactory conditions at the Animal Souk and then sold without certificates!! When expats leave are we supposed to then just dispose of them? If it's such an issue about exporting them then stop these people bringing them in and send those at the souk back to Africa. I am so angry and upset as I rescued this little guy from people who were abusing him. What happens to him now?

You're supposed to have proof of origin but if it was bought from a pet shop here then you probably don't have one.

You need to go to the CITES office in the Ministry of Environment (as is typical with government offices, they don't answer their phones!) and ask for one there. If you explain the situation and tell them where you got him from and how long you've had him they should give you one. It's also advisable to have a health certificate from your vet which normally helps with the CITES certificate application.
