How long?

How much longer until these effects are felt globally?

I know, the world population has nearly doubled in my lifetime (from 3.7 to 6.6 billion). Supposedly, the Earth can sustain 10 billion but I am sure that would require major changes on a global scale. Maybe we are arriving at the peak of sustainability. Obviously the scale of dietary intake varies greatly but barring major disaster(s), I don't see any real change.

I alluded to this in the article about malnutrition in children.

The fact is that we are not producing enough food and the problem is compounded by higher commodity prices.

Bio-fuel production is also eating into this.

As usual, the poor and the elderly will suffer. The major powers need to address this issue urgently..

Yes, I think the problem may even be worse than is being reported. There are several regions around the globe being affected by this. Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, parts of the Middles East are areas that come to mind just in the past 60 days. Obviously the FAO met in Rome last week but I haven't heard any good news. In fact the opposite, it will probably get worse. I'm not a pessimist but my goodness. . .

Every day you hear about people killing each other in the bread lines, and for me it has been four months since I have been able to buy my family any meat," says Salah Mohamed Ali, an elderly fruit vendor in Boulaq, another poor neighborhood in Cairo.

This is really informative article, wish many commented on food crisis. In Qatar alhumdullilah all I can see is food food and food
