Qatar, UAE restore diplomatic representation starting June 19, 2023
Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have officially restored diplomatic representation between the two nations as of today, June 19, 2023. This step involves the resumption of operations at the Embassy of Qatar in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai, as well as at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Doha.
The decision to restore diplomatic representation reflects the countries' shared objective of enhancing bilateral relations.
Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, received a phone call from the United Arab Emirates' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the conversation, both leaders expressed their congratulations on the resumption of work between the embassies of their respective countries.
The phone call between the two high-ranking officials highlighted the growing diplomatic relations between Qatar and the UAE. This development marks a significant step towards restoring and strengthening ties between the two nations.
In their discussion, Prime Minister Al Thani expressed Qatar's strong desire to foster a partnership with the UAE, aiming to enhance cooperation and address common concerns shared by their brotherly peoples. The leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration in various areas of mutual interest, including trade, security, and regional stability.
The latest development follows the 2022 Al-Ula Declaration, signed during the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit which marked the beginning of the reconciliation process between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors, including the UAE.
