Eriksson for winter World Cup in Qatar

Sven-Goran Eriksson urged FIFA to host the 2022 World Cup in January as the Swede believed hosting it in summer would badly affect the performance of the players.

“You can do a lot of things in this country, but I doubt you can change the weather. Of course, it’s a problem. If you remember the World Cup in the US in 1994, it was hot, hot, hot. I was there.

“That’s bad for the game because you can’t perform. You can’t run when it’s 40 degrees,” he said.

“I thought about it the other day. Playing the World Cup in January is a good idea because the weather now is perfect. You’ll have a problem in the European countries, because they’ve to change the schedule. But it’s a great idea. I agree to Michel Platini there,” he said.

“In Germany, they take a break. Most of the countries too have a short break. But in England, it’s never a break. If they can change, then it would be better for football.

“In England, it’s about money. In late December and early January, all stadiums are full. You must play football on Boxing Day in England. I don’t know how to tackle all those, but it’s always a better idea to play World Cup here in January than June,” he said.

Erikkson's a joke, and nobody really cares what he has to say anyway. The only talent he has is for securing big contracts...then getting paid off to leave! Has he completely missed the point that the stadia will be cooled???
