With the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 drawing closer by the day, Qatar's preparation for the ultimate football fiesta has continued to receive worldwide applause with the latest being the nomination of two of the Qatar 2022 stadiums, Ahmad Bin Ali and Education City, for the 2020 Stadium of the Year Award by StadiumDB.com.
Being held for the 11th year, the award is the world's largest online stadium accolades, and it is aimed at recognizing the best stadium opened over the past year.
Each year, according to the organizers, voters select their "top five" stadiums from the list of 20 candidates, giving a 5-star rating to the best stadium, 4-star to the second and analogically with 3, 2 and 1 star. Ahmad Bin Ali stadium
In a post on its LinkedIn page, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy said, "Cast your ballot now for your favorite #WorldCup stadium by using the link. Voting ends on 7 March!"

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan was officially inaugurated on December 18 - exactly two years ahead of Qatar hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
The 40,000-capacity arena was the venue for the Amir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Arabi, with 20,000 fans attending due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, set to host seven games during Qatar 2022 up to the round-of-16 stage, is the fourth Qatar 2022 stadium to open following Khalifa International, Al Janoub and Education City.
On the day of its official opening, stadium designer Ramboll said the project was developed with the Al Rayyan area's culture in mind. This is particularly evident in the five decorative patterns and shapes found within the stadium façade and around the precinct, signifying important traditions of family, local environment and history.
The arena was built on the site where the old Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium once stood, with the first concrete poured in 2016.
To fully incorporate the community's history and traditions in the project, Ramboll developed a relationship with Al Rayyan Sports Club – which will occupy the venue in future – to ensure the legacy aspect of the new stadium was properly planned.
Aptly tagged 'Diamond in the Desert', the Education City Stadium, the third venue to be completed for the 2022 World Cup, was inaugurated virtually on June 15, 2020, due to COVID 19 restrictions.
The program's highlight was a speech by His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The stadium which is located within the precinct of the Qatar Foundation has a capacity of 40000 and has advanced technology like stadium cooling and other such features. The façade features triangles that form complex, diamond-esque geometrical patterns, appearing to change color with the sun's movement across the sky.
It has received a five-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), and parts of the stadium can be re-purposed after the tournament. It is the first Qatar 2022 World Cup venue to get such a rating.
The arena's capacity will be reduced by half, and 20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping cultivate a passion for the game worldwide.
