World Cup

As an English woman living in Qatar I just want to say I feel ashamed of the press coverage by the British newspapers. It smacks of a spoil child that they did not get what they want so will use any means to discredit the winning bidder. It is the World Cup not the European Cup and therefore should include EVERY country in the world. Yes it will be hot, but the stadiums have a/c or if it get's moved to the winter months so what! (life changes all the time it's called progress)
Should the World Cup be taken from Qatar does the British government appreciate how this will affect their economy as expat will be coming home swelling the unemployment numbers due to inferstructure having to be cancelled in Qatar.
I would agree to some validity to workers rights and things will have to change, but every country has it's problems. A couple of years ago England had riots and a man was killed by the police, so do we say don't go to England.

FIFA are acting as if the big (and only) question mark is over the weather. Therefore using this to cover up the real problems.

what are there concerns..?

1- low paid workers?

2- sponsorship system?

3- Qatar's Heat?

4- Not happy with the fifa's decision?

They need to speak straight forward, why they are bringing new issues and dramas every new day...?

In my opinion they are not happy with Qatar hosting wc thats it....

Ha ha mr Qatar, if you think the newspapers care about whether Nepalese get high salaries or not you have completely missed the point.

How about telling me which statements I made are untrue? You can't.

they have to respect other countries laws they cannot impose there own laws every where.. if they really hand out rolex and gold to fifa members thn british media need to reveal that and investigate that...

and for your kind info america is also torturing muslims specially in airports just coz of one person..

one famous case of bollywood's star actor "sharukh khan" they stop and questioned him for several hours just coz his name i-e "khan"

@Rip Cord.. my question is that these issues are not new in Qatar but british media never raise any question before? where were they before? why they are raising this question now and why they are connecting these issues with wc..? coz of wc one thing is really good that now atleast they raise this issue but what if qatar did not won the bid..? they are just making use of issues they dont have any concern whether nepalese are getting high salaries or not? whether your passport is with you or not? all they are doing is to raise these issues and to create problems for Qatar.. later they will ask to allow prostitution and drugs in qatar which is not possible..

Such nonsense is written here, the west haters immediately agree as it suits their prejudices without looking at any of the evidence.

Let's look at the evidence.

True or false?

Nepalese workers dying in Qatar in large numbers.

Workers going unpaid for months?

Workers having their passports withheld by employers?

Exit permits denied to workers?

Current football players being held against their will in Qatar and contracts not honoured?

Gold rolexes handed out to FIFA members?

FIFA members admitting political interference and pressure on the vote?

Expats held in jail for insults to Islam based on the words of just one person?

The 2018 world cup is in the SUMMER..

The 1970 World Cup was in summer in Mexico.. No one complained about heat and altitude..

SO, let Qatar have the World Cup BUT in the summer as agreed..

Now days, it is tough to reach goal by following right route & guidelines.

I support Qatar in all way rather considering troubles behind bidding.

Reasons:-

1) At present Qatar is second home land & helps to brought up my life far better way

2) I could watch WC live & will get chance for photo shoot with world class players and watch them close..

Wish & pray for ALL IS WELL & wanna watch games live here.

RIP, Be optimistic man !!

No one is asking that the WC be taken from Qatar. The British press is perhaps the only media that is standing up to Blatter regarding transparency and rules.

The WC was awarded to Qatar with the clear understanding that the tournament will take place in the summer. ALL countries bid with that in mind. Qatar has taken steps and spent large amounts of money to design stadia that will function properly during the heat.

NOW, Blatter is using semantics and manipulation to move the WC to winter. This is not only against the essence of the tournament but also requires participating leagues to change their schedules. In addition it will conflict with the winter Olympics..

Corruption is everywhere. Everybody is money motive. So as the people there in FIFA. But a world event like soccer can change the face of any country. So, the underdeveloped countries can utilise this facility to expose themself to the world. Ofcourse, Qatar deserve it, even whatever may the scenes behind the screen. They will change their face after 2022.

Rip Cord, without any offense and confrontation, you need to kill off your negativity that you trade all the time, on most of the blogs. You are a talented person and the QL members want to take advantage of your talent from the positive perspective.

You are talking rubbish, England did not even bid for the same World Cup. They bid for 2018 against Russia.

You really don't know what you are talking about and are only interested in your own selfish needs.

What the British newspapers published after the result and recently is true, your real problem should be with the corruption within FIFA.
