2 True stories about RACISM

By owen

don't know if this has been posted before here..just want to post it (again)....

TWO TRUE STORIES ABOUT RACISM

1) Oprah Winfrey Show

I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey Show where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true.
Statements like"..."If I'd known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish and Asians would buy my clothes, I WOULD NOT have made them so nice. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people."

His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES".
Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show.

My suggestion? Don't buy your next shirt or perfume from Tommy Hilfiger. Let's give him what he asked for. Let's not buy his clothes, let's put him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes. BOYCOTT.

Let's find out if Non-whites really play such a small part in the world. Stop buying any range of their product, perfume, cosmetics,
clothes, bags, etc.,

2) Scene took place on a British Airways flight between Johannesburg and London.

A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what is the matter," the hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?" she responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat." "Be calm please," the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this Flight are taken..

I will go & see if another place is available." The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later.

"Madam, Just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is a seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class."
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued: "It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting."
She turned to the black guy, and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class."

At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed, stood up, and applauded.

...I made a similar comment recently on ths board and all I got was a load of abuse back! So,stand by.....

Both are completely untrue, as you say, but I suppose that's the beauty of myths and legends, they get embellished with each whisper...

Are you really capable of hating? or you've had an agonizing experience made you angry at the world.

And honest to god, I ‘v never understood, and do not want to understand, what it means to call someone white or black or fuschia!!

Its melanin that exists, even in plant and animal kingdoms, serving as a pigment, and gives us the colors of your skin!

That’s how I see it.

You have just proven that you're a non-westerner and a racist, so why blame westerners for being hate mongers?

Look in the mirror and start teaching yourself how to love first then proceed with preaching others.

You cannot grant what you lack.

LOL. I'm a racist. I'm racist against people who don't have a sense of humor and who don't believe in free speech.

Actually Owen, this was kind of cool, it brought back memories of when I heard it in high school and the big uproar it caused (white trash being partial to Tommy Hillfiger. :P)

are not true. There was another 'true" story about an American radio host who allegedly wrote an essay about how he hated Fillipinos and how they were useless and a waste of space. This letter caused a lot of resentment and upset and a huge amount of trouble for the guy who allegedly wrote it.

The truth was this man actually loved the Philippines and Filippinos. He had a home in the Philippines and both his deceased first wife and his current wife are Fillipinas and his children are half Fillipino.

Despite his vigorous denials of the slander against him, this rumor continues to circulate as a true story.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of real racists and unpleasant people about but the stories on this thread are not true or at least have never been verified.

Guys a quote from Oprah's website circa 1999

"So I want to just set the record straight once and for all. The rumor claims that clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger came on this show and made racist remarks, and that I then kicked him out. I just want to say that is not true because it just never happened. Tommy Hilfiger has never appeared on this show. READ MY LIPS, Tommy Hilfiger HAS NEVER APPEARED ON THIS SHOW. And all of [the] people who claim that they saw it, they heard it -- it never happened. I've never even met Tommy Hilfiger."

Also from the Urban Legends website:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/tommyhilfiger/a/tommy_hilfiger.htm

"i'm not hurting anyone, i'm just telling my own truth, and if there is something wrong then maybe there's something wrong with you. why we all gotta look, why we all gotta act the same i say if you're born a lion don't bother trying to act tame." Ani Dif

OWen ,

nice stories:) Don't care about them telling u it was already posted. I really enjoyed the second one. and.....maybe by reposting such threads you give a second chance to some who never read it before. in that case : Me. Thanks Owen :)

In my culture, it's just rude to tell someone things like : I've already heard that joke/ I 've already read that story. We just laugh and say thank you. :)

Wonder how many are offended here by this post of yours Owen, be prepared for an apology/ hate thread….lol

Just because some whites are racist we cannot call them all racist, I know some whites who were really good and worth knowing….. There are racist everywhere…irrespective or their color..

Anywayz hats off to the captain for this wise decision...no better way to embarrass her in from of others..

Can we all take a oath to abstain ourselves from posting/commenting racist/religious posts??

Actually a holy man getting on a flight in Manchester England refused to sit next to me because I was a women and wearing a sleaveless top.

He was kicking up a big fuss in a language I could not understand.

I was asked to move! I refused.

this is M A N C H E S T E R!

Another man swapped seats so this man did not have to suffer the indignity of sitting next to me.

Ufortunately I was not upgraded to 1st Class.

Good Post Owen.... positive action :)

The Tommy Hillfigger one is an urban myth. He was never a guest on Oprah and never said it. I remember that story came out when I was in high school.

Don't know about the 2nd one.
