73 Metro Stations + Extra 2000 public buses , Do you think this will solve much of the transportation crisis in Qatar?

Qatar will have about 2,000 public buses on its roads by the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a senior Mowasalat official said yesterday.

The company has embarked on an ambitious expansion plan ahead of the World Cup and for the growing transport requirements of the country, Strategy and Business Development Director at Mowasalat, Nasser Al Khanji told this daily.

State-backed Mowasalat will continue to be the key player in the transport sector in the country, under the direct supervision of the new Minister of Transport, H E Jassim Seif Al Sulaiti, who retains his position as Mowasalat chairman.

“Despite the many challenges facing public transport in Qatar, the number of people using public buses is on the rise. We are working on a plan to expand our fleet of public buses from the existing 300 to 2,000 by the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This expansion will be supported with new bus stations, more routes and additional services,” said Al Khanji.

They should build as well a comfortable and ample waiting shades for every bus station, metro might be a big help.

Perhaps transportation crises will be solved but traffic jam will eventually a crisis as well.

.. yeah very true but now after ten years we still have the bus station but without its overhead shades for the passengers.. and I suppose they have been blown off with the wind

After the airport transfer to NDIA. They should convert it to as Main Bus terminal.

Give me 500 Electric buses and I will solve 70 % of the problem...

It the same people are planning it even 100,000 buses will not be enough...

Before talking of creating more infrastructure first they should have a proper BusStation not that blessed gypsum sheethole they call main-bus-station.

If they can make the Busstations like Airport then we are talking something else they can as well forget it.

2000 buses ...no shaded areas for the waiting passengers and stinking filthy toilets that smell all the way to the gold souk.... looks like another tourist attraction that will get lots of publicity and soon

20 smart people are enough to solve the traffic problem instead of 2000. 1 lion is enough instead of 1000 sheep

.. first they should get their current situation with the buses they have under control as its more then a mess the way it is besides all those untrained drivers and lack of proper shaded areas at the main bus station and the almost non existant shaded areas at the bus stops are like just waiting for a disaster to happen

For Mawasalat, they should avoid central terminal in Doha. Its already congested because of many ongoing infrastructure and these big buses are adding pile on the road. They should create more Central Terminal Bus station on different areas like Abu Hamor, Madinat Kalifa, Villagio, Industrial Area ETC. In These way all are benefited not only the people who don't have access to bus transport but also motorist who are held hostage on Doha's traffic.

The whole industrial area will have new roads and streets. All the corroded left behind cars will be dumped outside somewhere.

From Al wakair to the industrial area we will have beautiful connections with bike tracks.

Salwa is already ready..

Lusail will be the next expensive city.

Frameworks packages have covered almost the whole doha.

So everything is on the way.. :)

Thanks for the update Bro. :-)

But have u seen any improvement or additional LANES so far? Progress I can see is the only replacement of roundabouts with signals, resulting terrible traffic jam everywhere. :-(

Where will they drive 2000 buses, at METRO TRACKS? LoL

They should also think about improving the road infrastructure before increasing number of vehicles.

Not only do you require the infrastructure to cater for 2000 buses, but do you have any idea how long it takes to procure buses and train the drivers..

from 2013 to 2022..so we have to wait for another 9 years and 3 months more before bus problem will be solved.
