The 4th Mindsports World Championships start this Saturday

The 4th World Mindsports Championships are coming to Qatar. The event, organised by Mindsports Academy (MSA) and hosted by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), is due to take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from 19th to 27th August 2017.

The nine-day tournament is expected to attract over 750 players from 18 different nationalities, and attract international masters of mindsports to compete for over $100,000 USD in prize money,  prizes, and the crown title of Mindsport World Champion.

Nationals and residents with an interest and passion for any of the six headline events of Chess, Scrabble, Backgammon, Bridge, Go or e-Sports can still register for free on www.msawc2017.com and test their chances at winning prizes courtesy of sponsors and partners supplying additional prizes for the Championships.

Ooredoo, the National Reading Campaign, AlFardan Motors, the Aspire Zone Foundation, Kiddy Zone and Cheeky Camel have been announced as official partners of the championship. They will be creating exciting experiences for tournament visitors and providing prizes for the championship’s official prize wall.

Mashal Shahbik, Director of Tourism Festivals and Events at QTA said, “We are very pleased to have these local organisations and businesses support the 4th edition of the championships, which coincides with one of Qatar’s longest-running annual events, Summer Festival 2017.”  

She added, “The regular and continuous involvement of the private sector in QTA’s festivals and events forms an integral part of the tourism sector strategy, and serves to complement the many efforts being made to achieve sustainable development for the sector.”

There will be an official prize wall at the event for winning participants to collect unique and exciting rewards during each tournament. There will be various categories so everyone has the opportunity to win something.

Those with youngsters and a knack for reading will have a chance to enjoy the activities being held at DECC throughout the tournament courtesy of Qatar Foundation’s (QF) National Reading Campaign. 

The campaign has partnered with the tournament to host a range of exciting literacy-related activities as part of its innovative aim to cultivate a love of reading from an early age among children in Qatar.

Visitors to the tournament will also have a chance to check out the latest car models thanks to the championship’s partnership with Alfardan Automobiles. As official sponsors for the 4th World Mindsports Championships, Alfardan Automobiles will showcase various BMW & MINI models including the all-new BMW 5 Series, BMW X1, the MINI Cooper 5 doors, along with BMW Motorrad during the event.

• Friday, August 18; at Mall of Qatar (Time TBD): An open competition with the world's youngest chess master. You can compete with him and measure your skills!
