75,666 Qatar road accidents in last 6 months

By linc

Gulf Times printed the following article praising the decline in road accidents:

http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=374052...

Considering there are only about 600,000 vehicles in Qatar and that most accidents involve two cars (and that many slight fender-benders go unreported) this means there is roughly a 1 in 4 chance a driver will have an accident this year. I knew driving was dangerous but this really is terrifying . . .

I'll add one more SUDANESE...

If you see a land cruiser or other big cars behind you flashing his headlights and you were in the maximum speed limit, most probably the driver is Qatari, second probability is an Indian and third is other Arab nationalities, it is just an observation. They seem to hurry alot and bully other drivers with their big vehicles and bright lights. Don't we have equal rights on the road?

Shapil, i'm very well educated thank you. I am free to give you english lessons concerning giving rhetorical examples, and not actual events - the way you mentioned beating 6 english chess players came across as factual. Anyway good luck with your chess, here's to number 7!

I blame you for taking ur eyes off the road to look at those women :-P

Shapil, chill the f**k out, what i say is mostly true, i got nothing against indians, apart from their naive driving ability. Could be any nationality but happens to be indians. Get over it!

you know i get tired of people saying that niqabi women can't see or their vision is restricted. bottom line it is not true. vision is fine. do you honestly think they would get behind the wheel of a car if they couldn't see.

im a niqabi and i can see perfectly. i haven't been in one accident.

I am a Indian my birth..But I too agree to the point that most of the Indian drivers are too much feared and create tensn to others...they are too careful....and become a problem for others..but i guess its mainly coz of the traffic violation fines here...an Indian driver gets average 3000 as salary or may be less...so How come they pay this much for violation..so they are too scared/..

duncheski first go get some education and then re evaluate your boorish comments because they suffer from the fallacy of generalization. You did not understand the example I gave and you will not understand anything I will say. So, live in your over simplified world and be happy.

That last comment proved how racist you are.

duncheski

Come on i've been in the gulf long enough to distinguish indians from other nationalities, ain't that hard. If their window is down the poor body odour is a giveaway straight away! They just don't seem well equipped to drive on the road. Simple as.

By shapil• 19 Jul 2010 15:29
shapil

6 was just a number, I could very well have put 600 there and still my statement would have been illogical and I did check their passports before beating them unlike you.

By t_coffee_or_me• 19 Jul 2010 15:17
t_coffee_or_me

Duncheski did you check their passport, If you have not then you are one hell of a racist.

By duncheski• 19 Jul 2010 10:38
duncheski

Come on guys it ain't too difficult to deduce after a while a familiar pattern - i'm making an observation that the following annoying driver faults are predominantly made by indians.....

1. Not indicating

2. Not letting u out even when bumper to bumper traffic

3. Driving in the outside lane at a slow pace when tons of room inside, creating traffic jams.

U beat 6 english at chess? Well done! Good for u...but i seen a lot more than 6 poor indian drivers so maybe my hunch is correct! Not being racist just an observation.....like indians eat curries with their hands....an observation!

duncheski, if you look at the drivers while driving and can face read their nationality then its an an amazing skill. I beat 6 english in chess and hence i can beat all english in chess.

By duncheski• 18 Jul 2010 19:28
duncheski

Why can't indians signal when turning off the road?? Hardly ever seen it done and almost always involves indians. I think in general indians have zero road awareness, whenever i overtake them on the inside lane cos they drive at 60km.hr in the outside lane or any other ignorant driving error i look at them and they are in another world, tunnel vision. Really pisses me off how retarded they are on the roads

highway engineering is part of the curriculum and road design as well as safe break distance, sight distance are part of the extensive program! It adds a lot in understanding traffic and traffic flow system.

I don't get angry anymore like when I first came. Some people are just ignorant of how to drive so its not really their fault and others are outright stupid in their recklessness.

I know how to drive out here now and don't get involved in accidents. However if I wind down my window and say to you 'and at what point did you think that move was a good idea' then thats me.

Did any of you hear of Lane Integrity, Maintaining a safe following distance, Right-of-Way, using your mirrors and signals? Oh yeah they teach this in driving schools, in countries that require you to attend prior to issuing you a License. Most of you come from countries that allow you to pay off the official and get a license to drive, then you come here and they reciprocate you a worthless License after you take an eye test. If you would just slow down and pay attention, it will be safer for all of us.

Its not unfair. Their field of vision is restricted and although they do not drive as fast as others they change lanes without warning and drive as if they are the only people on the road.

Now what would be unfair to say is all the polish drunks on the road are a menance as well..

By bea_7• 13 Jul 2010 14:15
bea_7

that is a really unfair comment! Of all the ladies wearing it I have not seen one who was an aggressive or rude driver. In fact they're all have been very polite and drove well.

Most of the accidents I've seen or heard of were unfortunately caused by men with too much testosterone ;o)

But on a serious note, I think part of the problem is that there're pple from all over the world and all of them drive according to the rules they know from their own countries... which can be quite different for different countries. So a bit of consideration for each other and less aggression should take us further than pointing our fingers at certain nationalities or certain pple ;o)

most of this country is inhabited by Indians, from what I can see, it stands to reason that they're involved in most of the accidents. I'd be interested to see the actual statistics on this. The Indians do most of the work in this country, so they find themselves on the road more than most too......right?
