Accomodation Prices

I was talking to the General manager of one of the companies we rent apartments off, i asked him if he thought the general rent price would come down? His answer was he did not think so! In reply i asked why and how wages in qatar are quite low his answer was this:

" No they will not come down and if you can not afford to live in our country then leave! It has been said that in an ideal world we would have all the workers in compounds at the industral area, as we would only like people with money living next door to us"

Personally i think great up to you your country but do not moan when we do not share the same views when in our country!

Sorry about that had to get it off my chest!

"If you cannot afford to live in our country then leave !" that is not the first time I've heard such a statement from locals. It is so heartbroken if your host said something like that to the guests. And that statement is not welcoming at all, especially if it comes from a Muslim.

Just thought of these :

1. Who has to pay for the water and electricity bills to Kahramaa every month, if not the Expats, when the locals don't.

Of course we can't complain.

2. Who has to suffer the most from the shortage of taxis, if not the Expats.

Of course we can't complain.

3. Who has to wait for the public buses under the hot firing sun, if not the Expats.

Of course we can't complain.

4. Who has to spend 50%, if not more, of his monthly salary to pay for his flat rental when the flat is nowhere of 1st world standard, if not the Expats.

Of course we can't complain.

and this list will never stop here, it can go on and on.

In the place I work for, my Manager (a local) doesn't even know how to forward an e-mail (this may sound weird, but I tell you it's true).

Never mind, you guys, if you feel like leaving this country, you're most welcome to my Country. We treat our guests very well. "Malaysia.....Truly Asia !"

There are a lot of Qataris who are very nice and informed people. There are some (Very few) who are arrogant and who may have been put in the position they hold, hence do not know what they are talking.

This is my experience.

If you have dealings with Urban Planning or Ministry of Civil Services, you will find there are a lot of buildings planned for the next 3 - 5 years. There is going to be a lot of activity in Qatar. This will require people coming to Qatar to work who will have a good package. This is where and why realestate prices will not come down.

I hope it is not true (that the prices will not come down) however with the same breath I wish Qatar all the best in their endeavours, but not at the expense of people who have built and are building this country.

can i just say that that GM is a big dumb ass! who's going to teach in his schools? who's going to bring in technology? who's going to do evrything that his people can't do on their own? 90% of the population are expats, where does he expect to get the kind of intelligence that expats bring? from his own kind? yeah right!

Rent prices will go down sharply in the next few months. That's for sure, but noone wants to admit it yet.

Wait and see.

Oh yes, segregation is the answer. Then we won't let them eat in our restuarants or let their children attend our schools. Genius, no one's ever thought of it before.

Giasi that's what he meant by being up the industral area having the workers living away from the city!

"If you can't live in our country than leave" has to be my biggest pet peeve here. "If you don't like it then leave" Sure ok, I'll leave, good luck finding someone to replace me. Seriously, it is not an answer to the problem. The cost of living here is too high. Plain and simple, people leaving will not solve the problem it will just make it worse.
