ADSL availability in Doha & wireless FM stuff
Hi
can anyone tell me if ADSL is available everywhere in doha? Trying to find a villa and we want to make sure we will have a decent "always on" connection. The villa in question is not all that new so we are a bit concerned that we will be left with dial up. I have only been here a week and already it seems that given the dreadful, appalling, shockingly bad QBC, an always-on connection with streaming audio will be a basic necessity to prevent onset of madness. THanks for any advice.
PS also anyone know if one can buy fm transmitters which plug into PC or mac here? not just the iPod in-car variety, but something which would cover a house with FM? Not strictly legal in the UK but available nonetheless...dreaming of wall-to wall radio 4.....so sad!!
ADSL connection is available anywhere in Doha. Except sometimes qtel runs out of capacity in certain areas. When thats the case you will have to wait a little longer.

Not accurate though, need to try it nearer wifi router
gefs - There are no data transfer limits (yet). I've been here in Qatar for a year and seen both speeds and quality of service reduce over time. Probably with increased users Qtel may introduce data caps in future.
"I got my ADSL recently (1mb) and cant remember if it was the same in my last ADSL connection but it gives a 638kb download / 128 upload. Is the 638 normal due to line wastage, central telephone centre etc?"
On your 1 MBPS connection, you should be able to download at around 100 to 124 kb/s. To test your connection follow this link -

Is there a usage limit for 1mb, 512kbs like 30gb for example.
I hadnt heard that there was? I though it was all uncapped.

Thanks
I understand that it is available everywhere in Doha.
I also understand that in due course, Q-tel will discontinue Cable TV and have it broadcast thru' ADSL lines. Hence, tel, cable tv, radio will be thru' the ADSL line.
I do not know how far the second para is true, but this is what I have been told.
Any and everywhere [;
Don't even worry about it. Make sure u get the 2mbit, as its still uncapped and theres no bandwidth throttling either.
