Air India to reserve seats for women on domestic flights

The maharaja carrier Air India will soon start reserving seats for women on domestic flights, ANI reported.

This is perhaps the first time in the world that seats will be reserved only for women passengers on planes. However, other modes of transport in India, including local and long-distance trains, metros and buses have reserved berths, seats or coaches for women.

The move comes after a recent on-board incident when a flyer reportedly groped a woman co-passenger on Air India's Mumbai-Newark flight+ . During the flight, a business class passenger changed his seat to sit next to a female passenger in the economy class and allegedly groped her when she fell asleep.

Is this the way to go ? Will we soon have segregation on planes ?

I personally believe that it does not address the real issue and is just a marketing stunt by the airline – What say you ?

Some airlines reduce the gap between seats this narrows down the free space between the two passengers ...... here we see what situational aspects have done to a general peoples life ....... ........

2ndly, if the guy had something in his mind which could have been '' very easily '' noticed by the other passenger ........ ..... ....... Too poor handling of the case by the staff ....... .......... ......... One apology & one forgiveness would have solved the case then & there only ................ .......... .......... ..........

ani_chy : The reason for this move is to stop / reduce the harrassment of women on the planes

I think rather than making such arrangements, these issues could be solved in the aircraft itself. Cabin crews are often very effective in accommodating passenger requests on changing seats. There is no need to specifically reserve ladies only seats. We are already struggling between leg room and "family with babies" only seats...

Brit, The guy might have itching in his armpit , we don't know, it's his innocence if he was sleepy & he might has brushed the passenger sitting next to him ...... ... skin issues are too common due to cold weather in India .... .... fungus is to tough to get rid off ...........

MM: "During the flight, a business class passenger changed his seat to sit next to a female passenger in the economy class and allegedly groped her when she fell asleep."

I doubt whether this was a misunderstanding

There are often misunderstandings between passengers due to jet lag ............. some issues are due to separation from the loved ones .......... we the humans are very much emotional ........ then some unfortunate errors take place which could have been avoided ............ .................

The gentleman ha already apologized his mistake. There was nothing left to be resolved. So this reservation is not required. .....................

An idiotic decision and bound to fail. Reservation system has now become part of Indian way of life. Every other person, community, lingual group, religious group, tribe, caste etc wants reservation.
