Al-Ahli hospital is one of the worst hospital in the region in terms of customer service. The support staff are totally useless and unskilled. They do not know if they are working in a hospital or in a beauty shop. The doctors are good, but the desk staff are worst. They do not know how to manage the paper work.

I would suggest, do not deliver here. Go back to Australia. I know the health system in Australia.

If you want to deliver here, go to Emadi Hospital at Mall R/A, they have good facilities. Al Ahli is the robber.....

HI swissmiss

i am just wondering which doctor is it you saw in Al Ahli. I am also an expat from australia and have recently found out that my husband and I are expecting. as much as i'd like to wish to deliver our baby in australia, it's a bit difficult due to his work circustance over here.

i have my first appt with a Dr Seenaa, but being a first time patient when it comes to pregnancy consultations, i am not sure who is the best. i have heard of Dr, Rizvi who is also with al ahli, but i was told by the staff there that she is about to leave and is currently fully booked wih appointments.

your advice would be appreciated.

I switched over from other (private) doctors/specialists because my insurance did direct billing with them. I've taken my son to the pediatrician and have had good experiences with him, and I've had several occasions to use their emergency room and they've been efficient and good.

But I am having second thoughts now. I tried all morning to reach them and could not get anyone to answer the clinic's direct line for the life of me. After two hours of listening to the phone ring, I finally asked the receptionist to give me a supervisor, who was then able to help me.

But honestly -- there is no excuse for a hospital clinic NOT answering their phones for over two hours. My situation wasn't a life-or-death one, but when you're talking about medical issues, it very well could be.

If they can't even ensure that they have enough personnel to handle answering the phones, then it makes me wonder what else they can't do properly...

As said before, Ahli hospital is just a showroom and they have build it in a hotel (I think its owner had already planned that if it doesn't successful, he will convert it in to hotel) :)

One of the famous insurance companies: QIC has dropped out Ahli from its preferred network so therefore they are affected hard in financial terms.

It is very expensive and not worthy against your money. I will not recommend it.

In terms of good Doctors/Physicians, Doha Clinic is best. They do not have enough space but they have good facilities.

thanks - but did not see your post about doha clinic, went to hamad, their IVF unit screwed up, went to london instead and successful first time !

al ahli - i have concern about giving sample to their testing unit for IVF ( their hygiene knowledge is very poor).

We are seeing the gynie at al ahli who is good ( german doctor)

With regards to the ENT at the clinic next door attached to al ahli, turned out to be a bitter , expensive experience, was scammed by the female doctor there ( I think she is Egyptian ) forked out 10k for inappropriate equipment that was because of misdiagnosis. Can’t make complaint because there are no medical audit bodies here in Qatar.

So to anyone thinking they may require hearing aids along with hearing test etc, go to the audiology and balance unit at hamad building 16 ( in the new hospital buildings ). This is the national unit for Qatar( it handles the Qatar deaf program ) and the doctor I saw is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I have just had my baby there and my treatment was wonderful - I had a complicated pregnancy and spent time in the hospital at least 7 times. The nurses are great and my doctors were fantastic. I now take both my children to the pediatrician there and they are great too. Compared to any treatment I had on the NHS in the UK - Al Ahli is great.

hi all

i have just come from al ahli

I find it to be ok, I'm seeing a doctor about my ears and although not close to the kind of specialists i have seen in the uk for many years, this one was good enough for me to continue.

One of my collegues has given birth at this hospital and it was recommended to her. it was more than comparitable to UK standards.

This hospital does charge you more than other places, but like any other private medical care you pay more for the hotel standard and the removal of grief and hassle of other places. i tried doha clinic before and its simply over run, not a stres free experience.

Fennec, consultants is a standard term used in the medical world, you pay more for them than GP because they are specialised. this is standard any where else.

the issue of cost for medical care is like that of any other services in qatar. its usally staffed by people who have al come here to make money, therefore you cost are all going to be higher than expected.

On a side note.. has any one tried the IVF at this place or know the cost here ?

wife and I are looking for a good IVF unit.

regards

It is a very poor hospital in terms of nurse care and actual medical attention. They almost killed my wife due to their negligence and probably would have done if I had not been there. They prescribe drugs like they are sweets and give treatments that make them more money rather than because they have any medical value.

When he was born there, my son had a small pimple on him so they referred him to a "surgeon" who insisted it needed circumcision whilst waffling on about dangerous bacteria. Only in very severe cases of tissue loss would such a procedure be medically indicated.

In any other country these people would come under the control of a medical council of some sort. In Al Ahli they come under the control of accountants.

From my experience as an expat, I am not sure if there are any really good medical facilities in Doha and I would not recommend anyone staying here to have medical treatment if they could go to Europe, USA, etc.

Sorry to disagree. Al Ahli hospital is mainly a show room. They care more about esthetic and business (money making) than the adequate treatments. Visits after visits, it's incredible the way they suck your money, without any real successful medical results. If you want to be well welcomed and artificially considered, go there. If you want to treat your sickness, it's not better than anywhere else, but just far more expensive: the doctors are called "consultants"; I let you imagine what it means in term of medical performance...

GREETINGS!

I CAME TO KNOW ABOUT AL AHLI HOSPITAL FROM MY HUSBAND WHO WORKS AS AN ENGINEER IN DOHA QUATAR. HE MENTIONED THAT IT LOOKS LIKE A HOTEL AND IS ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST HOSPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE THAT HE SAW AND VISITED. VERY SPACIOUS AND VERY CLEAN. THATS WHY I SURF THE INTERNET AND LOOK FOR THE WEBSITE OF AL AHLI HOSPITAL AND TRUE ENOUGH THE PICTURES SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. VERY NICE AND VERY CLEAN. HOW I WISH I CAN WORK IN THAT HOSPITAL AND BE A PART OF ITS FUTURE AS ONE OF THE BEST HOSPITAL IN THE GULF, OR IN THE WORLD!

The Al Ahli hospital is one of the newest in Doha. I have been talking my children there for all their pediatric check ups and vaccinations. It is modern and spacious, the interiors look more like those of a hotel than a hospital. It seems to be fully equipped with the newest technology. The staff are wonderful. The doctor who treats my children is also great. It is in the area near the sports round about, and the roads to and from it are under construction so it is perhaps not the easiest to get to at the moment, but I strongly recommend it.
