Al Qaradawi doesn't like football
or he has finally lost the plot!
He must have fun thinking up topics for his friday sermons.
Ron Manager retorted:
"Who is this Qaradawi fella? Small boys in the park, jumpers for goal posts, mum calling you in for your tea - ah memories!"
Did not know whether to post this in Funnies, but I think he is serious! :D
Noted Islamic scholar, Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi, yesterday described as devils those who introduced the game of soccer;“Who introduced this game of soccer,” he wondered, describing them as satanic.
“And if by winning the game we enter the paradise, the fight can be justified, but can we enter the heaven if we win a game of soccer?”
“The Israelis must be mocking at us, Arabs. They must be happy hearing of people from two brotherly Arab countries fighting with one another.”
"Individual sporting competitions are better than team events", said the scholar. “It’s all very upsetting. Where are we heading?” he wondered.
Finally, taking a dig at the inability of Arab countries to win the World Cup, he said "it doesn’t matter if Algeria or Egypt enters the international soccer event, for after all the Cup would be either lifted by some European team or Brazil."

this is exactly the wrong attitude when it comes to sports.the players and their nations somehow cease to understand that it's a game afterall and not a battle!tsk!tsk!

his message is that its just a game and it needs to taken that way...
not that it matters to you Adey or PM for that matter... you just need an excuse...
i think Syeikh Al-Qaradawi is trying to make people (especially the Egyptians & Algerians in this case) come to their senses.
i can see why he mentioned it and tried to add a sense of "humour" with the Brazil comparison. i don't think he really wants to bash the West, etc. on this but having said that, i wasn't there (maybe i'll check his website after this).
really, these people should remember that it's just a soccer game. unfortunately, i think it reflects, to a certain extent, the state of things in these two countries as well as the region.

I wonder, what the Bible has to said about it.

I'm glad the USA soccer team was not mention at all, I know for fact, we will never win the Soccer world cup. maybe the woman soccer world cup, just maybe.

Funny that he had to throw in Brazil to make his case. lol

Misguided at best, but in light of some Arabs (ie., Egyptians and Algerians) being willing to kill each other over it I can see why he said it.

Rightly said, Sheikh Qaradawi.
A side note, it's commended in Islam (I'm sure in the other 2 religions too) to be active and physically strong and healthy "Teach your children swimming, archery and horse-riding."

Yes. Who introduced soccer to the Arab world indeed! LOL

in his new found role as a sports coloumnist, the Pope gets in on the act as he delves into the world of film criticism:
Vampire film ‘New Moon,’ the sequel to ‘Twilght,’ has come under fire from the Vatican church.
Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, of the Pontifical Council of Culture, described the film as a “deviant moral vacuum”.
“This theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
He added: “Men and women are transformed with horrible masks and it is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office.
“This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such is something that should be of concern.”

People may have gotten the humor had you posted it in the funnies rather than the lounge.

i think , many people will misunderstand this hilarious joke like i did .
and they will think it is true if they are not acknowledged by the whole story

Well said Brit...
I am amazed how some people read what they want and leave what they don't like, or just don't bother to read the full story!
I am calling from this forum for both countries to STOP IT.

- i think you were not in Ql lately or you are trying not to be , have you seen the empty heads increasing the hate because of empty ball.
-i think you can say also ,government hate games "at the end they are spreading their forces in the fields, stopping people of attending games .
- i think i hate the game too because my eyes get tired quickly of watching a green picture with tiny men in the screen following a small dot i barely recognize.

It would be interesting though to conduct a poll in Eygpt along the lines of:
Would you rather see a free Palistine, or, see Eygpt win the World Cup?
Would be an interesting poll.

You bugger :O)
I think if you read the full article he is referring more to the fact that people take football too seriously and that the violence was uncalled for. There are more serious problems facing the Arab world..
He asks "Why should people from two brotherly Arab countries fight, that too, over a trivial game?”
I do believe the article may have been written a wee bit out of context dont you? The emphasis is probably more on the events taking place around the game rather than the game itself.
Flan, you know you are gonna stir some crap with that one, why bother?

Ofcourse adey, it's always an outside force that is to be blamed.. this time it's Football that has to be blamed. You really can't make this stuff up..
