We need to find a place to live in the next 3 weeks and if we don't well it seems we are going home! our delightful landlord is putting our rent up about 40%, and of course we don't have a hope in hell of negotiating with the idiot. The real estate agents(if indeed they are legit) are a bunch of money hungry sharks, some of them want upwards of 1/2 months rent as commission, how the hell does someone find somewhere to live in this town if you are relatively new and don't have any sort of social network developed? I've actually had enuf now and am ready to go home. if anyone has any bright ideas, that excludes the sharks and money hungry illegitimates, i'll welcome any decent advice!!!

ahhh cant i get in trouble for this ? Ok well i know they rip people off and i guess your right....... its imp***l estate agents there very bad people!

the estate agent should not take comission from you - they themselves get the first months rent which you pay from the landlord ie you pay 12000 per month then the estate agent takes the first 12000.00 for there comission from the landlord!! See how it works then they tell you that they need comission from you as they get nothing from the landlord - and half the time they get you to right the cheque in there name so they pocket the money! so they end up pocketing 12000 from landlord and then 6000 or 12000 from you!

i worked with estate agents for while so i know how it works! no one should pay comission if they try and take it then they are taking the ****! No one i know has ever paid comission and have been out here ages now!

Is it Homes2Rent? Why protect their identity if they're taking advantage of us?

for finding you a property - they never use to - if its the english lady who you have dealth with out here ( the one who has been here forever) she picks and chooses who she charges the comission for - watch out for her she doesnt give the full service promised i know many who have been stung!!

I have never heard of anyone who has paid comisson for rent!

Just be careful there are a lot of sharks out there! try not to use the estate agent lady i mention! ( She doesnt advertize on QL in case anyone thinks i am mentioning someone on here!)

We are currently sharing a villa with another guy but this is not working as he does'nt like kids and has basically moved his girlfriend in! The lease is in his name so we don't really have any recourse and as he has a place to stay he isn't really interested. Our company does'nt provide housing (although they own a lot of compounds and flats) and the housing allowance that was s'posed to be increased to market value when we arrived never was so yeah we are pretty stuck. We are looking for a 3br apartment, unfurnished with a/c(we have white goods) and we can manage QR8000- , which we basically don't want to go over as we are then spending our savings which defeats the purpose of being here! and so the story goes!!!!! thanks for the kindness!

It is illegal for the landlord to put up the rent by 40% take it to the rent board, they are efficient and really do a good job, I can name two families who did this and came out smiling.

As for the Agents, try the British run agencies, they do not charge the tenant, they charge the landlords, so that should save you a packet.

What are you looking for? I may be able to help.
