Arab Idol Winner Mohammed Assaf to Perform in Doha

On the occasion of Eid, Mohammed Assaf, the 23-year-old Palestinian winner of the 2013 Arab Idol singing contest, will be performing live in Doha on the 11th of August.

Along with him, Salma Rachid, the 18-year-old Arab Idol Moroccan contestant ranking fifth place, will also be performing at the event.

Assaf's victory on June 22, 2013, unleashed rare jubilation across the grief-stricken Gaza Strip, Palestine, and the Arab world.

He went from being a virtually unknown wedding singer from a Gaza refugee camp, to becoming a "local hero."

Assaf's win signified much more than just a victory for the Palestinians, who have had little to be happy about, considering 65 years of Israeli occupation.

His win transformed him into a symbol of hope and national unity all over the country.

Fireworks and dancing erupted on the streets of Palestine as large numbers of crowds watched their icon on the Beirut-based MBC TV channel make it as the winner of the Arab world's top TV contest.

Immediately after his victory, Assaf was named goodwill ambassador for peace, by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and was offered a position of “diplomatic standing,” by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The event is to be held at the Al Wajba Ballroom in the five-star La Cigale Hotel. The doors will open at 8.30pm, and the performance will start at 9pm.

No wonder the gulf is going through such turmoil, clashes and belittlement by the West and israel, when all these guys are worried about is singing and dancing! Where is this Umma heading? Is this why great Muslim Scholars and Imams in our history fought for? The blood they shed to free the holy Land was to see things like this????
