I don't get to work shorter hours during Ramadan, but at least there is no traffic now when I leave.

You mean Qatarhappening isn't happening for you today. I feel your frustration. Never mind - the week-end is here. Maybe take a nice drive up the coast this evening ;o)

Ya I know. But home there'd be a point in them doing that. Now I'm just soooo bored out of my skull because I can't get anything done because nobody is working.

and there may be some in UK who would make a fuss, but I think the fact remains that MOST Muslims in non-Muslim countries would continue working alongside there non-Mulsim co-workers during Ramadan, and that's what it is I'm getting at. :D

If the request isn't granted the company would end up with a lawsuit on it's hands. Better to just give them shorter working hours.

Of course they can request it, like I could request Christmas off here - doesn't mean every company will comply with the request though.

And, anyway, there will always be exceptions to the rule. Most I know in UK will be AT school/work or wherever with a prayer room at their disposal.

Not true, I know Muslims in Canada can request for shorter hours and stuff during Ramadan.

In non-muslim orientated countries the muslims will be working usual office/college (or whatever they do) hours WHILST fasting, so I guess it works out even all round :D

LOL QT..:)

by the way, i am fasting as well.. no promisses to keep it to the end of Ramadan, but at least as much as i can..:)

I don't mind working the extra hours, what bothers me is that there is no point being at work past 1 or 2 as you can't get anything done since nobodies in their offices.

...yesterday!

Right, my two cents worth coming up now!

Muslims fast during the day, non-muslims don't (usually)

Fsting is difficult and makes you extremey tired during the day if you have to work.

Work still needs to be done, as muslim and non-muslim clients expect it to be done.

If you don't fast, it's only fair that you work normal hours! IMHO

there some of my flatmates who are having problems like you in this ramadan office timings. But most of them who are working same 8 or 9 hrs still are in company managed by white people (im talking about american & europeans)

dont feel that much hard or you will just get irritated the whole month because you are not alone. this ramadan office timings are depend on your company policy. You have no choice unless you try & work w/ other companies. Nevertheless you cant do also if you are under their sponsorship :)

So, better ignore the office timings ok? time is running fast & you will not notice ramadan is over ok? ngiti lang girl! :)

My wife's company have now realised that making them work normal hours and having to pay 4 hours overtime isn't very good from a financial point of view. Rumours are they're cutting back to 8 hours from Saturday.

You think they'd work these things out beforehand, wouldn't you?!
