Asian Games going to happen
By Helloqatar •
I keep hearing tales about the Asian Games being moved because Qatar is not ready. ANy truth to this because all these people coming here to work are going to be in a mess if it happens.
I would be scared of a job at DAGOC.
People with their full rights lost all their rights, people who use to work here since long and in full time and full incomes, they lost their rights no body is unloyal to his job everybody is loyal ,those who came here recently and agreed with their low paying their story is else, what here is dicussed so far is a common survey which we also took.Their are people told something and are taking something else this is another story and here we will expose those stories also, any body crying for what he is demanded here and they agreed to do with i think no loyal for job,but those who are here since long what is their mistake , i think nothing .C .u. in Malyasia 2006.
Of all the things that might be a problem with the games, money is not one of them. Time maybe a problem, workforce maybe a problem, poor planning maybe a problem, problem is money can't buy time or common sense. Those seem to be the two things in short supply.
The suffering of the common man is because the common man has agreed to come here and work for very low pay, in hot dirty jobs, for bad bosses, all of which is still better than the home country. I still say if you don't like what you agreed to or what you were promised is not being delivered, go home. If the construction firms couldn't get people all day long for what they offer, it would change. As long as someone will work in these conditions, they will let them work.
Angelo,
Next time, go to google, type your word, and you have it.
btw: by the way
roflmao: rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.
Just an advice: for starters, try it on a carpeted floor, absolutely no tiles, no hardwood pls. Enjoy,
Moudir
Hello anyone,
Please help, I do not understand what is the meaning of BTW and ROFLMAO, sounds like BLT - Bacon lettuce and tomato.
Any one help
Nice conspiracy theory... all the woes of the people are because of the games....?? What an excellent excuse for unscrupulous employers etc to use, but ROFLMAO...
Well the reality and truth is that these games are not so easy to organize as Doha is arranging ,let see first bcaz of this game what is suffered by a common man in Doha and all people as well,we have highly developed contry like U.A.E in the region not today but from many years but here in Doha development is going on only for the sack of Asian Games isnt sound strange nations never get developed or advanced bcaz of any reasone now U.A.E is well developed as an its on identity not for any games or events.Traffic issue is the most important issue always in Doha, late construction and arrangment of roads and finishing at the edge of Asian games will give no time for faults or problems solving which will occure in road structures it should be arrange long before but like as i said the development is only for asian games.Last but no least in many sectors salaries were cut to half bcaz of this asian games ,mean that a huge tax is already taken from the public expatriats what ever in the name of games by cutting salaries to half ,now i came to know that some sectors salaries is going to be restored i hope so .House rents bussiness cut of salaries ,rise of prices in common items in shopping are the steps taken to organize Asian games oh boy really strange.Well i hope doha and wish best of luck to doha to organize the games other wise Malaysia 2006 well they are ready any time and its true . c u .
At the end of 2003, the OCA (Olympic Council of Asia and the controlling body for the Asian Games) were (allegedly) unimpressed with the progress being made and rumours abounded that the games would be moved to another venue (that already exists in another country).
The roads are all part of the Asian games committment and are necessary (as Helloqatar stated) to get the athletes and spectators to and from the venues. Signage also also still got to be sorted I imagine.
The HCC (Host City Contract) is very specific regarding what is expected of Doha in all respects.
It was DAGOC's intention to "pick up" many of their staff from the Greek Olympic Games. they were aware however that many of the staff from those games were torn between Qatar and Melbourne. Many of you will probably agree that the Australian option was a better choice and probably better paid. What was beong offered by DAGOC was not particularly attractive at the time.
Personally, I think it unlikely that the "Games" would be relocated at this late stage.
Candyman, have we met? I was with DAGOC until April 2004 (in HR). I was "moved out" at the same time as Guido Tognoni who was Director of Overall Planning and came recommended by Sep Blatter and Franz Beckenbaur.
Cool I will - Thank Brit....Have a great day!
Give me a ring when you get here - ask for the Brit in Ticketing M+P dept, DAGOC 2!!
Have a good flight!!
Thats great - DAGOC have been trying to get us over much earlier - but most of the Aussies coming over in the next month - have been working at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne - so we couldnt start until now.....really looking forward to arriving and meeting new people and getting stuck into the job!
Hi Ya! I'm working in Ticketing - Marketing and Promotions Dept..I am responsible for the ticketing systems and box offices at some of the venues. I think we plan to have a small outlet at the Village so we may bump into eachother! I'm from the UK - been here for two 1/2 years.
Hi Candyman - I am Village Operations Centre (VOC) Coordinator - Department is Athletes Village Group Department - I think when I get there my core responsibiltiy will be to make sure the athletes village is running ontime. What about you - what department - what role? I am from Australia - what about you?
Hi Shay! Challenging is a good word for it! The venues will be ready but the roads - well thats another story! Which department are you going to?
Ha - interesting comments - I am flying in on Friday to work for DAGOC - so looking forward to seeing what is going on with the venues etc....sounds like its going to be a challenging time!!
I think they are already doing 24 hour roadworks in some areas, aren't they? Or maybe that's just the construction sites...
As an employee of DAGOC can I say that we are all aware of the rumours going around about the games not happening here but that is just what they are.......rumours! The people of Qatar and Asia are in for two weeks of excitement and fun so I hope you will all come and see The Games Of Your Life!As to the roads - that is not a DAGOC problem. I'm sure that someone somewhere will bung a few more millions of QR's at the prolblem should it look like it will hamper the game time travel plans! Any one for 24 hour roadworks!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't disagree with anything you've said, Helloqatar... and for Qatar's sake I really hope they do get their act together and get the things done that have to be done, for the Games.
Yup, I heard the rumours... I trust that the authorities will finish on time. Really. I can picture few qataries scratching their heads...
Nothing new... It happened with Athens too, nobody believed that it would be ready on time till the last minute.
It has to be ready on time. They cannot possibly delay this kind of event and expet the rest of Asia to be Ok with that.
Did not the DAGOC commit to 5,000 5 star hotel rooms by the games? They are a long way from the number. As for the Athletes Village, I hear that it is going to be housing for Hamad Hospital staff which should mean empty villas and Apts for the rest of us.
Rumor is that DAGOC has been warned twice about being behind schedule. Somethings should start to be finished.
The road work will have a large impact on the Games as you can't get to contests or it will take 2 hours to go across town. Being late because of traffic is not acceptable.
PS - I suggest that for whoever it is possible, the first half of December will be a GREAT time to take a holiday OUTSIDE of Doha...!! I bet it is going to be sooooo frustrating....
The traffic is definitely an issue, and will still be during the Games.... but the roadworks are separate to the Games preparation (ie nothing to do with DAGOC) so it's just up to the Qatar 'government' to get that sorted....
Did anyone see the chaos of the traffic at the moment, do u think they can cope during the games???
I highly doubt it will get moved - yes, things are a bit behind, but I am sure they will scrape through... I don't think the Emir will want the shame of having the Games taken from them, so I think they'll do whatever they need to do...
As for the DAGOC people being "scared"... well, wouldn't the new host city still need people to organise THEIR Games? I can't imagine - at that late notice - they would want to start again with a *whole* new set of staff... so pretty much most of the non-Qatar-based (ie came specifically for DAGOC) people would be "picked up"... well, maybe...
I put this rumour fairly firmly in the basket with the one that says "the Athletes Village will be demolished totally once the Games is over"... :)
I think anyone working for DAGOC will agree with your last line...
