Bashing of any nationality

Moderator
By Moderator

Bashing - Deliberately and repeatedly bashing of any nationality will get you banned.
Over on the QatarLiving forum, we have few posters who continually flout this rule.
On many days, there are dozens of posts from them, almost all of which are negative and critical of some nationalities.
Continuous bashing and negativity have, frankly, made the QL forum such a nasty place that many people have simply given up on it, being in "reading mode".
There is a difference between expressing criticism of some facts, and the kind of sour negativity of constant bashing.
At some point, it becomes clear that certain people just are going to bash and bash and bash. . .
And honestly there aren't many -- just few -- but it spoils the atmosphere of the forum.
The QL Admins will consider the atmosphere of the QL forum and we will ask participants to stop their bashing behavior.
And if they are unable or unwilling to stop bashing, we will go ahead and ban them.

Thanks!

I am bit late to comment. However it is an admirable step from the moderators to stop bashing here. I was wondering earlier why no action has been taken so far. I know many good QLers who either left or are read only mode. I used to see some guys posting only for bashing others and I used to comment on it and was really thinking of moving to read only mode. Great job. Keep it up.

Very good move. Mods. I know you've done this a number of times before (reminding QLers of the rules and warnings to behave, etc) and have been tolerant but the fact that the site lacked the intelligent and helpful debates it used to have is result enough that there needs to be renewed change.

qatarisun said "there is difference between bashing and stating the facts. where is the line, border between these two? "

It's HOW things are said and of course, respect for others' opinions and not taking things personally.

Even though not a great poster in this forum, I loved reading the posts, but I stopped it for more than a year because of worthless and time-wasting threads and comments. I hope QL get back to was it was.

And to those trying to draw a border b/w facts and bashing, c'mon this ain't a play school, everyone is mature enough to know that whether their comments are facts or pure bashing.

Most of us, the QLers are biased...one way or the other. Some are really good in using proper words and can easily get away with being punished or labelled as bashers. Rest are plain idiots in responding...they find it difficult with their limited vocabulary to continue the debate/argument in a proper manner. Those, having good command on English would continue with their 'good' work & provoke others (idiots) whenever they wish...& will ultimately get them banned.

genesis... very well said. And since the OP talks about any nationality, I would stretch it to say people should not make assumption about any culture without making an effort to get their facts straight... and a bit of tolerance towards each other would go a long way in keeping QL a nice place to interact, understand and appreciate each other.

I would say bashing is criticism without a good example.

'they are idiots and stupid'

Opinion would be with an example.

'I think X because I saw Y.'

Example:

'I think Egyptians are scary drivers because I live near Khalifa stadium and when Qatar played Egypt it was terrifying with the wreckless aggressiveness.'

'I think Indians are good football fans because although they don't know a lot about the game they cheered their team on even though they were losing'.

Oh, thank goodness, Sir Moderator! Finally, something happened! =0

Honestly, I don't visit QL much since I joined a few years back. Reason: discrimination is rampant, plus the content is not that much intellectual.

I also belong to several tech users group, choir group, photography club, etc., and the on-line environment, the on-line etiquette, the intelligence of the posts/responses/messages of the members are far more richer in content.

Looking forward to a more intelligent Qatar Living in 2011 onwards! Thank you.

Oh, good that you are here, Mod. Speaking about ban, why wouldn't you ban those who bring up illegal issues on QL?? THAT would be really helpful!

People are constantly asking how to cheat on Government of Qatar, how to circumvent or violate the law.. Others are readily offering the solutions, giving the contact details of those who will teach them how to cheat on qatari authorities!... and such threads are hanging on QL forever, giving people the answers on their illegal questions! How about that, eh?

but again, it depends on WHAT to consider offensive!

if I say, there is a certain image of russian girls in Dubai, and that's why they are banned in qatar (thanks God!), not to get here the same situation, would it be bashing of russian girls, or stating the obvious fact? :)
