Beaches In Qatar

Surrounded by Arabian sea for the 3/4th of its borders & being a neighbor to Dubai, I expected to see many beaches in Qatar spread on a vast area. So far, only been on Katara but being a long-time resident of Dubai, my expectations were much higher than what I saw. I plan on visiting Wakra beach next but don't have great reviews of it either from people. So I am kind of surprised why Qatar has not focused on utilizing the natural beauty of the sea/sand this country is blessed with & developed beautiful beaches here? Is there any beach in Qatar other than katara, wakra & sealine beaches (near Saudi border) which I am not aware of or...?

I went to Wakra. It's such a beautiful place. Took my heart away. Sadly, I reached there 5ish on which was not enough time to explore the market & the beach. Soon it was 6.30pm. Quite dark to enjoy the beach. So I left to visit another time. The bird shop was delightful. Could not see the sword market & the cultural & the souvenir market which I really wanted to because they were closed for maghrib. Next time will find a better time to visit.

Daniel, how to get there? No METRO line connected to that area. How far are these beaches from Al Meera at Madina Khalifa South if you take a cab?

If you go to an 'untouched' beach you'd have to bring your own sunshade. There is nothing but nature at Ghariya and Fuwairat.

Gharyia & Fuwairt are untouched beaches? I want to see untouched beaches (better if they atleast have shades). So you reccomend those?

Daniel Schriefer, katara has alot of 'touching'. Why I did not like it as a beach is because there was no open sea view for public except for a tiny space next to the hotel boundaries in which no public member is allowed. So it sure was not a natural beach. Yes, I do want to see untouched beaches. By 'developing' I meant jousting building bbq & shade facilities there. That's about it. I don't mean they should build Disney resorts. No.

Qatar does a good job by NOT touching its natural beauty and NOT building Disney Resorts. Go to Ghariya or Fuwairat in the North East about 100 km from Doha.

So as I thought before, there are indeed more than just 3 beaches in Qatar. I was so disappointed yesterday when the locals told me the opposite (that Qatar has no decent / family beaches other than Katara & Wakra).

Oh why didn't I think of this before... just ran a search & came across this:

Good info. So Wakra has good ratings unlike the locals I checked from.

acchabaccha, your solution is a good sunscreen ::chuckle::

I love to sport a complete African look sometimes for a change after a 10 hours tan. Nobody from your social circle recognises you the next day but that's part of the fun. Personally, I would never use sunscreen to avoid tan. The feel of water/sand combo along with bbq has all the priority. Katara has more cultural feel to it than a beach. Loved it because of all the history & culture but missed Dubai alot to get a feel of the beach.

Yes,I have heard Qatar does have several beaches but I have never had the opportunity of spending time at any one of them.

My skin now has already has a natural tan (slowly turning to deep brown) which is permanent from working in the sun 8/6, and as such the need to absorb the sun on beaches does not arise. Beaches are for those who keep themselves always under a roof whether it be a home, or an office or a car.
