This is a tragic story :( ....but the most tragic thing is that no one was wearing a seat belt which could have saved their lives.

Whilst driving I accidentally dropped my Chocolate Mocca with sprinkled nuts ice cream. Luckily it landed on the seatbelt and saved my white shirt from staining.

So YES to seatbelts ..

And my mate who weighs in at about 80kgs was thrown through the side window of a rolled car and broke his back. He wasn't wearing a seat belt!

Sometimes luck isn't around!!

I once commented on seeing a local woman driving her car with a small infant in her arms. Her other child was stood on the passenger seat leaning on the dash.

Most people don't realise that an airbag will inflate at about 200mph so probably instant death for both kids, but the guy I spoke to said that the children were much safer without the belts or car seats as they were in the arms of the mother! Amazing logic!!

"Oh just a sip, I can drive. I am not drunk, I am more active when I had a small sip or two, I can drive".

Justification for something wrong which a person very well knew. Tell me, is there a difference?

is baburao the driver of this car?

"the driver of the Civic suffered minor cuts to his face". He was in the same collision that killed 3 and seriously injured 3 more.....why did he walk away almost unscathed? Duh, he was wearing a seat belt!!!

By Missteacher• 23 Mar 2012 03:50

Yeah perhaps in this case as it is so severe but other cases where seat belts are not worn and lives are lost! You can drive safely and wear a seat belt but still be involved in an accident because of the nut case on the road. Wear a seat belt in case ANYTHING happens be it your fault or someone elses. Protect yourself and your family.

The seat is on the floor! i dont think anyone wearing a seat belt would have survied in the case... Drive safely and wear a seat belt should be the title of the post.

Here in Qatar, I think no one is stupid enough to not wear their seat belts and pay big fines.

is it 'unable' or what ?

By britexpat• 22 Mar 2012 22:22

A great point. I ever thought f that. You will fcourse be pinned upside own by the seatbelt, probably UAE to reach your phone or unclip the belt :0(

Our birth happen at home basement , at farm, in aeroplane, at multistorey hospital , at road side, on sea & so on. Some die there only.

Then our life starts, we go to nursery school teacher, some die even before that, then take to roads with cars , some die here on the road, then marriage , kids come on board, some die at this stage, then we bacome grand parents, some die here......& & in these / different ways we all leave this world.....

In the journey of life all / many activites / actions / incidents come across where 'others' are involved which becomes a reason for that particular event.

By anonymous• 22 Mar 2012 21:30

if you have your seatbelts on and the car violently turn upside down or even does a summersault will the belt help the passengers and drivers?

By Molten Metal• 22 Mar 2012 21:28
Molten Metal

Our birth / death / any incident is all fixed up beforehand , all we are doing now is only our wish.

We must admit, there is only basic one single reason & many consquences for any incident.

Its not a case of who is responsible, its a case of that they had more a chance of surviving if they had worn seat belts.

Plus we don't know the full story of what happened in the car of the father and the two children as the never lived to tell the tale sadly. One of the unseatbelted children could have distracted their father and made his reaction delayed to swerve out the way in time or anything.

They travelled so much for so long safely & 'suddenly' a car came from front, definitely at some speed & hit their vehicle. now stop here to determine a point, see it is ONLY that driver / car who was the solely responsible for all the loss of life....

By Missteacher• 22 Mar 2012 20:55

Yeah...MM I know. I don't get your point?

By Molten Metal• 22 Mar 2012 20:38

It was other car which came from other side of the road & crashed head on into them , so root cause was that driver / car.

By anonymous• 22 Mar 2012 20:23

even with a seatbell wont survive that

Wonder if they think the same when they are taking their kids to the shows and putting them on roller-coasters??

"uch dont bother putting the safety belt down...ifs your 'time' its your time son"....

By nomad_08• 22 Mar 2012 19:57

Nothing's going to change, most religious people believe that if its your 'time' its your time...

This is the funniest part:" ... parents needed to educate their children about the importance of using seat-belts."

I think the parents need to be educated first!

Yes and I can believe this figure 2020 Olympics! The amount of kids I see in Qatar alone hanging out windows, hopping up and down the back and between the the driver and front passenger seat is truly sad and actually quite disgusting...never mind the rest of the UAE.

This is just one sad, tragic proof that there is a definite need for a seat belt..for ALL passengers, not just the driver.

By nomerci• 22 Mar 2012 19:35

2020, I once saw a lady with 2 toddlers in a car parked next to me. BOTH of them were sitting unbelted in the front seat as the lady started the car to leave. I went to her window and said, PLEASE, put your babies in the back seat, at least with seat belt if you don't have a baby car seat. she said, NO, they will cry. I said, isn't that better than being dead? she said Haram, and took off....

The worst part of the story:

"Figures from the Middle East Road Safety conference in January showed that 98 per cent of toddlers in the UAE are not properly restrained in car seats."

Truly tragic.

on the other hand, if people feel they do not need belts in what ever kind of vehicle, that is their choice too....kind of a natural selection kind of thing...I actually have ceased to care.

Well, I look at this differently, but anyhow. I am one of those people who stay belted throughout th flight. For good reasons...I have seen people getting hurt due to sudden "air holes"..well, not me though!

And yes, cars should not start unless the belts of ALL passengers are on.

By anonymous• 22 Mar 2012 19:10
anonymous

I am one of these people :).. My logic is simple.

How can this thing help me if the plane falls down or crashes?

The only time it could help is @ sudden events during the flight where it is optional to not have it on...So, what is the point really?

Cars should not even be mechanically allowed to turn on if seatbelt is not on!

By nomerci• 22 Mar 2012 19:03

Peter, I have seen plenty people on planes who literally have to be forced to put their belts on.

It's funny how people happily wear their seat belts on planes but not in cars, when that seat belt can only save your life while you are in the car and not on the plane.

On a plane, you are there to protect the seatbelt in case of a crash.

I'm not sure, but I think you will find everyone reading this wear seatbelts.

Anyone who doesn't wear a seatbelt please correct me. And then I will laugh at your stupidity.
