Bhavans school - parents pls advice.

I visited Bhavans in Wakrah to enquire about my kids admission. There was a function going on with a chief guest, childrens and staff with mic were ready. I was waiting at the reception (near function) since princi was busy. To my surprise, i wintnessed the program was in malayalam.

This is not a complaint forum. I just have query. Is the language spoken in Bhavans is malayalam, as my son doesnt know this language, he knows (Hindi and English) and will he be in trouble, if it is so, there were lots of students attending the function, do all the kids know this language.

I am thinking of admitting my kid in Bhavans just because of fantastic new location in Matar kadeem. Sitting in the bus to reach abu hamour can be avoided. And i have read reviews of all other Indian schools. All are good and all are bad. is bhavans also in same category or there are lot of bad compared to good?

Please advice on
1. Language spoken
2. Location (can we visit new location, how to go there, if you know route).
3. Overall academics/other activities
4. Safety in transport.

Thanks in advance.

bhavans has a name in India , dont know what people are doing here ... while taking a principal, school managment should give more attention. educated and experienced but principal must be professional both in look and in behaviour with teachers....they have already good experienced teachers in matar qadeem

acdemic is not bad, they have good concept about different areas. if they give proper training to teachers they can improve more.i had met both principals .god know how good they are .....The Head should be the one who can control the school and the same time down to earth character then only teachers love their job and good result will come. Under pressure nobody can deliver best.

dont do this mistake of admitting your kids to Bahavans Qatar

Obviously you do not understand the curriculum if this is your stance on the school. ISL-Qatar runs on the IB programme which if you knew anything you would understand is learner centred. Which contradicts your comment about the school not being focussed on the learner.

As for learning something useful, that depends on your take on what is useful. Did you want your children to memorise facts? Yes, then no ISL is not the school for you. Did you want your child to understand the deeper concepts behind, to be able to think critically and reflect on their learning? Yes, then ISL is the school for your child.

As for your statement about students leaving that may be the case but you should also be looking at staff movements. Are teachers changing every two years or are they remaining consistent? If the teachers are leaving it is cause for concern because they know something you may not. Having said that the only people I know leaving the school are leaving for Sherbourne because they wanted British Curriculum not International but were very happy with the school for the time they were there.

Before making grand sweeping statements perhaps acknowledge that the school was not for you but that the extensive waiting list says otherwise. The school has an international student body, and challenging curriculum. It may not be your ideal school but let people make their own judgements rather than being bitter in a public forum.

I transfered my kids from bhavans to dps. they studies in bhavans for 1 year and their standard has declined to the lowest. the principal himself converses with his staff in malayalee language and moreover he is absolutely incapable for running a school. the teachers are very poorly qualified. i have seen my kids class work books which teacher has marked correct for incorrect answers. basically the teachers are very paid low wages and they are just not interested in providing quality education. forget about quality. not even average. SO PLEASE STAY AWAY IS MY SINCERE ADVISE

Try doha College. Definitly Stay away from international school of london. The facilities are okay, but no substance no what so ever.

The international school of london is one of most expensive schools in Doha and yet the worst by far. Everyone i know attending the international school of London in Doha is about to leave the school.

Poor education and a total waste of our kids time to send them to this school. Stay away of this school and try other ones. Such as Global, Doha College, DESS.

We and our friends had a terrible experience in regards to learning. Some of us managed to send the kids to other school and some are looking for places for their kids.

Thanks to you all guys for your inputs. I have respects for all language was only concerned for a kid to find themselve misplaced. Speaking malayalam would always be advantage as learning spanish for mexico, due to majority of ppl speak that language.

I hope as u all suggested, that fucntion was special one.

The time you guys took to participate in this forum is highly appreciated. Thanks again

One person witnessing a programme long time and he desn't use his sence to know that programme belongs to whom and what type, same person searching for good school for his kids?

which should be in his doorstep, non malayali speaking school, safty in main concern, finance is not a problem... I have suggetion betten than 'J2009', make own school.

My son is studying in Bhavan's & I can assure you it is not a malayalam medium school. I don't know what was the program going on there. There are teachers from Kerala & other states also. Some teachers are great & some are not. One problem I noticed is that teachers are getting changed frequently. I won't say it's the best school, but wouldn't say it's the worst. The school is only 2 yrs old & yes there are many areas to get improved. You can get the routemap of the new building from their website. But the KG section is going to be there in the same location in Wakra. Transport service seemed ok.

I would suggest to select 'Cambridge school' so there will not be any problem for 'Languages Spoken'....

most of the indian school is having malayalees (so called your mallus) in management. most of the teachers in indian schools are mallus. but as i know none of these schools are malayalam medium, all are public schools following CBSE.

Shanti Nikethan also majority by malayalees. Check with the parents studying in these schools, do they face any problems bcoz of mallu teachers. Don't try to differentiate these institutions by states/languages/colors. All are Indian schools following CBSE, except MES is having CBSE and Kerala State Syllabus.

Bhaven's is a new school. The function he might have seen is specific malayalam language programme. I don't think these schools are conducting any common public programme in one regional language.

Thanks for the advice's. Han, actually DMIS confirmed that the admissions are full. Hence again i am starting search. Was depending on DMIS as we filled the form on the first day when the forms were out.

In bhavans, I hope it was malayali specific occasion and all kids attending were aware of the language.

PV, you have still not taken a decision :-D.

No problem, take your time.

Most schools have management comprising of keralites, but i dont think bhavans is a Malayalam medium school. I have been in touch with the school on various occasions and have communicated only in English, with the coordinators, n section heads.

If you remember my first advice, I suggested you seek an appt and clarify all these doubts from the school itself, whichever school it may be.

Regarding the program you witnessed, it may have been a non school event being staged in bhavans premises or it may have been a specific malayalee based event by the school.

There are some malayalee groups here who regularly conduct large scale children's events/competitions, involving children from all Indian schools.

May be the programme you watched was a Kerala skit or something. I doubt whether they will conduct a whole programme in Malayalam unless it is November 1st - Kerala Day or for Onam celebration.

Thanks ahmdshafi, what a to-the-point answer. Thanks, it was helpful.

In gulf we need to be in Malayalay environment, thats ok, no problem, its a language like any other language, but i think the teachers should encourage kids basic conversation in official language of school. Arabic in arabic school, english in english school.

I remember in India, when teacher caught us talking in Hindi, we used to get hard time. Still my english sometimes becomes Hinglish LOL.

Fees wouldnt be a problem, just location and safety wise i guess the school should be OK.

Thanks for ur input.

This School is only Two years old. And also its from malayalees management. I think all students and teachers also mallus.

Location wise there is another school also very near from Matar Kadeem. In barwa village there is one school called Shanti Nikethan Indian School This school premises is so good. And transportation is alos ok. I think its better than Bavans. And another one school near to Matar is DPS. But this school fees are too high.
