Biggest Risk In Life?

By DaRuDe

What’s the biggest risk one would have been through or taken in his/her life?

By 1 I mean you QL members, so share it out here with other members.

After our school had the inspectors - Ofsted - in, we had a successful report and I got a lot of praise. Headteacher assumed I'd be heading off to run a school of my own. The inspectors left on a friday, I had a small gathering of friends friday night.

When they left, I went online to look for new teaching jobs, clicked on the international section in the TES by mistake, and, in a flash of inspiration, I decided to go abroad. I hadn't even considered it before.

The following morning I got an estate agent in to sell the house, by the wednesday I had sold it, and resigned from my job.

I had no job to go to.

In the end I had a choice of three jobs, one in Europe, one in Indonesia and one in South America. All good schools. I chose Venezuela, met my husband, moved to Asia, had my son, moved to Scandinavia, adopted a new son and soon we shall be in Qatar.

Best decision I ever made, that Friday night in early 2000..........everyone thought I was mad! My life has been immeasuraby better since leaving the clapped-out UK. I have traveled extensively, experienced many wonderful cultures and lived life to the full.

I am sure Qatar will be the latest in a long line of good, crazy decisions!

Peace XXX

I guess going to middle himalayas in monsoon season and getting stuck between two land slides whilst watching people slipping into deep dungeon. Still get goose bumps while thinking about the risk we took.

1: Leaving my children & grandchild to come & live in Qatar

2: Levaing a well paid job to come to Qatar

3: Renting our house out when we come to Qatar

Last but not least, driving around here but that could be classed as a nightmare!!!!!!

when I got pregnant (at the age of 20) and about to take up my Medical Degree (I was a graduating PRE-MEDICINE student, then); went through the pregnancy, and as soon as I graduated, took a job and supported my kid and myself...

NEVER MARRIED the guy...

another RISK...because SINGLE PARENT in the early 90's was NOT EASY. I even lost my first job (after graduating) when they found out that I am Single with a child.

Now, I can say...ALL was worth the RISK...

And after that getting married and shoulder the burdens of family !!!! People before marriage are dare enough to take many risks in life, but after that lol the percentage of taking risks drastically falls...

For me the biggest risk is driving in losail road, the road to raslaffan...

Darude  Driving around Doha, while you drive my truck and Im just watching and  learning the back streets of Doha. Definitely is fun to be the passenger, while you drive my truck! That is what I called a calculated risk. Good thing about it, you are a excellent chaffer, we should do it more often.  Consider it a compliment Amigo!    "Every once in a while, declare peace -- it confuses the hell out of your enemies." - Quark quotes a Rule of Acquisition, "The Homecoming"

I think, the "riskiest" thing a man would do....is to sleep at night...

and he doesn't know if he would wake up the next day....and where is he

going after that.....its an everyday risk!...have we thought of that?

My answer is similiar to most everyone else's response in that both my husband and I quit secure, decent paying jobs, packed up our kids and left friends and family behind to come to Doha.  And so far it has been a great opportunity for all of us.

2 big risks..

first most important one is facing that Islam may not be the truth, talking it over with my husband and fearing the consequences.

The second risk was becoming muslim, marrying my husband and leaving my family for the sake of Allah because I thought Islam is a religion perfected by God!

It was a choice of "getting rid" of it to pursue a Medical degree or "keeping it" and face the consequences.

I choose the 2nd option, and took a huge risk in my life...went through a lot. And 16 years later...I have NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER of making THAT decision.
