Like it or not, Fox News is a major media outlet. Ignoring it won't make it go away.

Naseerhammed. Looks like I have attracted a stalker. I'm all for gay rights, but sorry to disappoint you, I'm not gay and I won't go out with you no matter how many threads you follow me to.

The bizarre thing is that some people still watch/reads FoxNews.

I do not see anything "bizarre" about this.

These are people , who want to be Imams and are competing to show that they are not only educated in the basics of their religion, but also can interact with their society.

The prize for the winner is a trip to Mecca to perform the haj, a scholarship to the al-Madinah University in Saudi Arabia and a job at a mosque.

tinkerbell--I think it is a mistake we all make from time to time, especially when driving. Apologies for not being more specific as to what I found bizarre about the whole think upfront.

Pilgram--maybe this is how the next Pope will be decided :-(

Very upsetting to see this and I'm surprised others are not.

tinkerbell you're probably right. I wrongly assumed people would read it as I did, and I honestly didn't think people would get hung up on the parochial Fox News headline.

Obviously, you haven't seen any of the religious channels available on sattelite and cable :O)

I'm not shocked that someone finally turned religion into a reality show. After the Jersey Shore and 16 and Pregnant it was only a matter of time. What I find shocking is that it was Muslims who did it! I'd expect this kind of thing from Catholics or Baptists, but Muslims? :S

I did not post the link for the various things contestants were doing. Every religion has its deep-rooted traditions and rightly so. Fox news missed that.

What is bizarre to me is that it is a reality show in the first place. It is bizarre to turn a religious process into entertainment by using a Western reality program formula. If the mother Church did it I would find it insulting, but I guess it comes down to how seriously one takes their faith as personal faith based on a commitment and submission to God.

Baazigar--I like the new name and glad to see you've given up pretending to be Qatari for your new ID. The name fits--a Hindi film that is a rip-off of an American film that is a rip-off of an another American film that is a rip-off of an American book. So many layers of tacky plastic. And hi to Saeed Khan too. I see they kicked you off of the anti-QL facebook page.

Agree with Pilgram. A reality show to choose a holy man from 1,000 contestants is odd. If the Vatican did the same to choose a priest, I would find it just as odd, because it trivializes religion and turns a blessed calling into entertainment.

But reality television is hardly reality because it brings out the bizarre for our entertainment. Who would want to watch a real reality show that showed normal people doing normal things?

A reality show to choose an Imam? Isn't that kind of taking away the seriousness of the calling?

Yes, What is bizarre in it. That is what Muslims are doing around the world. They wash corpse before burial and they eat slaughtered sheep and not killed or dead sheep. If you doesnt know the Religious things please keep out of it.

corpse before burial and eat slaughtered animals.

This is part of our religion.

As an Imam, you should be aware all aspects of the Religion and thus they have to go through these.
