both are problematic, if the idrive fails on the bmw you have no heater/ac/radio/etc...

i would pick a lexus ls600 over the both anyday!

iDrive is simple to use. The point is that the chunky buttons are easy to memorize. You can easily keep your eyes on the road and navigate through most menus with ease occasionally looking at the screen. It keeps your eyes on the road instead of hunting for a million buttons all over the dash.

Regarding service packages, dont let that be a deciding factor. You are paying for the service pack, trust me. Youre just paying for it up front. BMWs are about 40% pricier here than in the US. All that extra money goes into "free service packages" and profit.

The other thing you need to watch out for here is Al Fardan throwing a ton of dealer accessories onto vehicles. I have been in the tower showroom and have seen an X5 with nearly 50k Riyals worth of accessories like body kit and wheel / tyre upgrades. Its all forced onto the customer to drive up price / profit even further.

This is coming from someone with a 2012 X5.

Black/White Merc S series looks more Elegant and superior then BMW 7 series......these cars does cost high maintenance.

Oh, I miss my Land Rover! And yeah, CL, the BMW offers terrible silhouettes. I drove my Mercedes an hour to the dealer yesterday with a backache all the way. Drove my new Lincoln MKX home in comfort! GREAT nav options. (If pressed, I could share a picture.)

If you want a BMW or a Merc and you are worried about service or fuel consumption, then get yourself a Honda my friend.

They both are good car. BMW is BMW and you only appreciate it if you owned one before. They are the most technologically advanced cars and they drive well.

If the S600 is not AMG, then I would say BMW is better. If it is AMG, then you might need to test drive both to see which one you like more. I personally prefer BMW for many reasons.

My preference has nothing to do with part prices, service, warranty or any of these intermediate issues.. It is 100 % based on these cars' attributes.

And if you're decided to buy SUV in these two brands.. go for X5 4.8 .. Or X6 50i .. OR if you want to pay a bit more than that.. get them as X5M, X6M.. you'll love the performance, comfort and the safety

I personally like mercedes .. they always come up with good and stylish shapes.. BMW on the other has a hell lot of technology in their cars ... but not very good shapes ..

iDrive is very simple to use - you seriously got to have a low IQ to find it hard to use. It keeps the dashboard uncluttered. I've kept the essential controls on my steering wheel. Its perfect.

BMW - Alfardan have a service package (5 year) So no issues on spare parts and service (other than tyres and some rubber components). That said you can buy a service package with a Merc (extra cost).

BMW's are good to drive however they are not as comfortable as Merc's. The run flat tyres of my BMW were horrid - you'd feel every bump on your B*M. I've changed my run flats to normal tyres - a better ride now.

Petrol consumption is normal besides who think’s about this cost anyways out here. Infact i think it gives great mileage.

It ultimately comes down to personal choice – test drive both and then make your decision. Do consider the Jaguar XJ though – it has been rated higher than both the Merc S and BMW 7 series. I’ll will be looking at a Jag as my next buy. The dealer for Jag are Alfardan so the service would be great (if I have to benchmark their service for BMW)

Go for Merc S-Class, IMO

The roads in Qatar are not made for either of these cars! It is blasphemy to cruise at a maximum speed of 120 km/h while the engines are well capable of doing 250 km/h and more. You are raping the engines in other words!

I just traded in a Mercedes. Damned uncomfortable!

Now without doubt the biggest pros of BMW cars are that it the car is actually a BMW. LOL :D

Biggest cons of this car are the iDrive system that I did not understand after messing with it for more than an hour. The iDrive puts most of the controls at the side of the driver instead of near the audio system /: WTF!

It looks beautiful Yes, BUT! Is very hard to control while driving and difficult while not driving as well for that matter o_O!

. Another big con with BMW's is the cost for maintenance ): Whatever you pay for the average car for maintenance, you can expect to pay almost double that. And it just sucks petrol like there is no tomorrow Yuk!

So if you still decide to purchase it don't think what I mentioned above is going to be the only thing that are expensive. :D Talk ABT sapre PARTS!! AHHH!
