MAIN MAN: Govinda in Bedford on Tuesday.
Stars of Indian film industry shoot scenes for new blockbuster Bollywood came to Bedford on Tuesday as some of its biggest names shot a number of scenes for a new blockbuster movie.
Screaming fans gathered in Harpur Square to watch well-known stars Govinda, Shakti Kapoor, Bhupi and Ameet Chana during recording for a new comedy inspired by the 2005 Hollywood flick The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
The cast recorded an all-singing, all-dancing scene in the town centre before being followed by hordes of enthusiasts to Chapel 29 nightclub in Mill Street to continue filming.
Director Jag Mundhra, a veteran of 32 movies, said: "We have some really big world-famous stars in this movie performing here today.
"The movie is loosely based on The 40-Year-Old Virgin, or at least the lead character is certainly based on the film's lead male."
Some lucky Bedfordians were even drafted in as extras for the scenes.
Mr Mundhra said: "We decided to shoot in Bedford because we wanted a location where we could firstly shoot in front of some impressive traditional looking buildings, like in Harpur Square, and could then move to somewhere nearby to shoot the club scene, for which we needed a venue of an appropriate size like Chapel 29.
"Plus, in London there are a lot of restrictions on when you can shoot in the street so we came to Bedford."
The stars were on hand to sign autographs and pose for photographs throughout the day before leaving town and heading to Soho to continue recording.
Bollywood comedy fans will have to wait until next year for the film's release, but can see Mr Mundhra's latest political thriller Shoot On Sight, starring Brian Cox and Sadie Frost, when it is released in cinemas at the end of this month.

Jauntie..i would mind the rain for a day or so but would be happy for 22deg during my stay..better get the strawberries and cream out for Wimbledon! i hope it doesn't rain through out the tournament...
22deg last week for a day, then the Great Ouse was too deep to wade through cos of rain for a day!, and now back to 15 deg.
Well, hey! It's Wimbledon in a couple of weeks, so expect rain for a month :D
LOL Why ? due to snow fall here ?
"Drink Beer Save Water"
Luton had a flight service direct to Dubai, and it just got cancelled last week - grrrr
Jauntie... what's the weather like? Going to c the folks over the summer..i agree the country side is such a contrast to the cities..
who came to Bedford, well known stars?!! Or did we get the B Movie players :(
The article said the ladies were out there in the Centre of Bedford screaming for more!
Ohhhh next coffee evening is in Dubai,,,,,,,,,,he heh
"Drink Beer Save Water"
thanks for remembering me, and for asking - I'm OK, but very bored. Can't believe I actually miss coffee! (the coffee evenings I mean) :D
Jaunts quickly return back to Doha,he he he
How r u ?
"Drink Beer Save Water"
is because it reminded me of some of our QLers - made me feel a little closer to Doha, in my own home! :D
Ooops there goes another Sikh, wandering down the road outside my house, followed by a few Pakistani ladies in full dress. sigh
Hub went into town the other day - no-one he passed was speaking English! Eastern Europeans have settled here also. I had a weird, pigeon English conversation about Russian vodka in Sainsburyofskis the other day. hee
All good fun.
Maza, I'm from South of the Thames by birth but I do love the villages and countryside to the North of Bedford - so pretty and green and even thatched roofs!
TCOM, I'm trying, I'm trying!!!!!! Please tell me some of the lovely people I've met and adore will still be there in Doha by the time I get back (hopefully in a week or so). I'm starting to think it was all a dream :(
Yes quite clever.. We're now trying to clone Ashvarya Rai !
Smart isn't it? You guys do the donkey's work and we make money out of copying Hollywood movies!
Cheers!

Oh god, these guys never stop copying. Why cant they be original?
Una palabra no dice nada, Y al mismo tiempo, Lo esconde todo
Best thing about Bedford is the surrounding countryside :)...and then u reach Luton :(
You're famous.. Now bedford, once known for trucks can call itself the "hollywood off the M1".
By the way, its strange how Indians "loosely copy" english movies, add songs and voila..
guess I'll never know if I was within a hair's breadth of India's mega stars here, or not ...
Oh well, maybe the stars are unknowns, but it seemed to be a bit of a big deal in 'my' town. Maybe not such a big deal to the regular, and Indian born, QLers ..
I'd be interested to know if we did, in fact, see some well known Bollywood stars :D
I'm really sorry I wasn't 'down the market centre' when all this was going on! :D
