Brilliant Idea! Now, thieves watch out!
Secret video camera clippings land wallet thief in prison
DOHA: Based on video clippings of an act of stealing, a criminal court here sentenced an expatriate to a year in jail and ordered that he be deported after serving the prison term.
The man could not deny he had stolen cash worth QR3,000 from the wallet of a colleague as the victim had a secret video recording of the act which he produced as evidence in the court.
It so happened that the complainant left his wallet on his office desk once when he went to pray and when he returned, he was shocked to discover that currency notes worth QR5,000 were missing from it.
He was sure that this was the handiwork of someone from the office itself. He waited for a few days to make sure that the incident was forgotten.
After several days he thought of implementing his plan and inserted currency bills worth QR3,000 into the wallet and left it on his desk deliberately.
Before that he had brought a small video camera and installed it so cleverly that no one could spot it. He had also made sure that no one saw him installing the spy equipment.
The angle of the camera, which was hidden close to the desk, was such that anyone who touched the wallet would not escape its eyes. He then switched the camera on and went off.
He returned after a while having presumed that sufficient time was given to the thief to steal the cash. He inquisitively grabbed the camera and turned it on. What he saw shocked him as he discovered that the culprit was none other than a man who cleaned up the office.
He confronted the man later as he was not in at that moment and asked him if he had stolen cash from his wallet. As was expected, the man denied and said he had no idea of what he was talking about.
He then showed him the video clippings which had caught him in the act. He was seen cautiously approaching the desk and looking around to make sure no one was watching him. He then picked up the wallet slyly, opened it and pocketed the cash, leaving the empty wallet back on the desk.
Having watched the clippings, the culprit was left speechless and confessed to have committed the theft.
He told the victim that he had kept the cash in his room and that it was safe and he would return it. But the victim thought of teaching him a fitting lesson and lodged a police complaint.

thrash, they told him that Qatar was the safest country in the world. That's why.
Why did the idiot leave his wallet out in the open in the first place?
I'm sure I've seen some these 'issues' in some episode of 'COPS'.

Where to get spy cam?
And with regards to The Peninsula's articles/news...I wished they could write/publish better than this...some article (not all) seems like in a "high school newspaper/mag"...

They also have cameras in the streets. I wonder who put them there. However, they are not cleverly positioned. Everybody can see them!
You can't teach experience...
