Calling all animal lovers
By surfgirl12 •
Lastnight we found a small abandoned kitten. It looks like it has been attacked by other cats, we tried taking it to QAWS but they say they won't take a cat without vaccinations & medical records etc. The kitten is very loving and friendly and likes to be stroked, would make a lovely pet once nursed back to good health.
Please, please consider giving this tiny kitten another chance in life as we are in a hotel just for a few more days and leaving the country on Friday.
Please let me know if you're interested or can help in any way A.S.A.P Thankyou
thanks for the answer,Chelsea!
..btw..do you want to adopt a cute Bat?
I'll accept any vaccination!
Without cuttin' the balls! :(
.
UkEngQatar, we didn't find it in that area and it is just plain ginger, sorry. We are taking it to the vet today, thanks for everyone's concern, hopefully we'll sort it out today.
Surfgirl12. Is it ginger and white? with yellowish eyes? did you find it any where is proximty of the Ramada Hotel or in Bin Mahmoud Area?

Take it to the vet.
Surfgirl12, are you able to take the kitten to a vet to see if it is old enough to be vaccinated? If it is old enough to be vaccinated, as Chelsea said, QAWS could take the kitten in. If you need contact details for either of the vets in Doha, their numbers are 436 7187 (Doha Vets) and 487 7144 (Qatar Veterinary Centre). Both are open from 8am-8pm Sunday-Thursday.
Hi everyone, for those who asked we still have the kitten, it is probably 5/6 weeks old, it is ginger in colour. It's eating and drinking a little on it's own but probably not as much as it should be however, he/she is still very affectionate & seems to crave human companion ship.
Just to clarify the QAWS issue, i didn't mean to slander anyone i was just stating the facts. We took the kitten to QAWS and they simply said that they will not take a sick or injured cat as it may infect other animals.
If anyone can still help out, please do so as we only have a few days left. Thanks
you are so rude ...
there are loads of kittens and stray cats in doha street. Before you picking on QAWS why dont you do something yourself. How many cats or kittens have you rescued from the street ?
You should give chelsea a hand helping out the shelter yourself then you are entitle for an opinion of QAWS.
Please, feel free to volunteer your spare time to QAWS and help us with cleaning out the 30+ litter trays, scooping up the poo of 50 dogs and cleaning 35 kennels. And then there's the farm animal paddocks and rabbit hutches etc.
We clean from 7am-11am and 5pm-6pm everyday so please come down whenever you can.

An animal is only neutered once.
Initial vaccinations should be given at a minimum of 8 weeks old (tri-cat for cats & DLPPH for dogs). A booster for this is then given 4 weeks later. The rabies shot can be given at any time after 12 weeks old. The tri-cat/DLPPH and the rabies are then given every 12 months after that.
So if an animal comes into the shelter and is vaccinated, by the time they are rehomed they need to be vaccinated again (with the booster). If an animal is with us for 1 year then they would have 3 sets of vaccinations.

I love how you all are so quick to criticise.
At the moment we are not taking in little kittens unless they have been vaccinated as we have a couple of cats with cat flu and so we don't want any new kittens coming in to get sick (kittens can die of cat flu and we don't want that happening). Not really unreasonable is it. It wouldn't be very responsible of us to take a healthy kitten and put it into an environment where it might be at risk of getting sick.
If the cat isn't vaccinated, we ask for a surrender donation so that we can get it done the same day. I haven't turned away any kittens and we never ask for medical records. If the animal is sick we ask for it to be taken to a vet (because we're not vets), to diagnose the problem (because we're not vets) and get medicine (because we're not vets). We also don't have the money to treat a shelter full of sick animals and we have to think about the ones that are already in our care.

Don't be so quick to criticise QAWS. They are doing the best they can, with limited funding (until they become a recognised charity, they cannot accept company donations) and limited capacity. Pet abandonment is a major problem here, and they are the only organisation here doing anything about it (although there are also individuals who do pet rescue).
"they won't take a cat without vaccinations & medical records"

Any animal that is leaving QAWS must be neutered (if old enough). If the animal is not old enough, we make an appointment for the surgery to be done at the right age and we follow up with a check. The adopter is then required to pay the vets fee as we cannot afford it ourselves.
This "fee" includes:
To the Vet:
QR 360 Vaccinations
QR 900 Spay
QR 155 Post Surgery Medication
QR 60 Dewormer
To QAWS:
QR 25 Donation"

NOW I AM CONFUSED: HOW MANY TIMES THE PET SHOULD BE VACCINATED, NEUTERED/SPAYED?
a shame...
i thought they are saving stray animals?why they refuse to get it?so what if theres no vaccination?what they are joking?they are good when asking help to the people?just to give home to the kitten they cant make it?oh!crap....
That QAWS is a joke... dirty ,,gross place with rude staff or volunteers.. kittens better on the street, i tell you.
I wish I could, I hope someone would lend a hand.
Thanks
