The ongoing discussion is quite shocking. Couldn't comment on that thread hence opening this.
What do you think?
Can it be called charity event? or was it charity cum business?

A sponsor of the Pakistani event doesn't feel they were well represented.

I think there are some other issues too but I wasn't .... anyway maybe discussing it in private might have been the better solution...

This was what I was really afraid that may happen...at it did.

Ahhh...money...money..money...

I sincerely hope so too Brit. It feels so wrong to combine charity with business. If what was accused is true, It would be a huge disappointment and feeling of being cheated to many who attended.

By britexpat• 25 Oct 2010 22:10

If I was one of those who attended, then I would feel that I was misled and the event was misrepresented..

I hope that we are off track and this is not so :O(

I would be disappointed more than anything else.

I hope the guy who collected money from us gave the full amount to the charity it was meant for.

In this situation, what should be the reaction of people who actually attended the event?

Be happy that at least some money was collected for donation OR raise concern why all the money collected in a charity event were not donated?

I express my anguish over the development of irregularities on account of charity.

drmana let's organise a "charity" function.

I can do with some money right now :P

Damn I love these opportunities to make fun of the people in "power" :P

And it then, if this is true, makes sense that they said that the bachelors who were not allowed to enter this bazaar could contribute to help the flood victims by just buying a ticket....I did not quite understand that logic before, but now it becomes all clear.....

Looks like I just clicked the link in time to read the accusation and response.... and both weren't in good taste when talking of a charity event for such a cause.

By drmana• 25 Oct 2010 21:41

WK, from what I understood of the clarification, only the money from ticket sales of the charity event were to go for charity not the other profits like sales and sponsors. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong in interpretation of the clarification.

By britexpat• 25 Oct 2010 21:40
britexpat

Well , it must be to do with possible legal action :O)

By nomerci• 25 Oct 2010 21:38

drmana, it has been deleted? Oh dear!

By nomerci• 25 Oct 2010 21:37

brit, I stand corrected then. Maybe those "semi private "ones...where people collcet money for the workers, as an example. But for registered charities, no, I have not been to a single one where all monies were given for the cause.

This is the reason why i try to do charity by myself...maybe not as "broad" as those "events", but I do know for sure where my money goes. :)

By anonymous• 25 Oct 2010 21:37

Well the accusation and the clarification have both disappeared. read the accusation but missed the response..

Ah well, nothing surprises me anymore anyway so I doubt whether it would have surprised me.

Qhris, I would say probably the post is being edited.

By britexpat• 25 Oct 2010 21:33

I have been to many charity events where ALL monies have gone to the cause. In some, the organizers have even gone out of pocket.

By anonymous• 25 Oct 2010 21:29
anonymous

Clicked on the link to read it, and it loaded, but my laptop crashed....refreshed the page....and now the body of text has gone!

The X-Files, maybe?

By nomerci• 25 Oct 2010 21:29
nomerci

drmana, no, not necessarily. As it makes people feel good to "give"...it is easy and good on the conscience....after that, well, who cares ?

Unless of course the charity is found out to be cheating...that is a problem, because then the "giver" has to find yet another place to make himself feel better.....

See, IMHO, those who really want to help, who have their heart set on it make sure that the money actually does go to those in need...and that is not an easy thing to do

!

By drmana• 25 Oct 2010 21:26

And now suddenly the content of that post is gone.

May be this is in line for deletion next.

By drmana• 25 Oct 2010 21:24

nomerci, Its a sad situation then. I am sure those who actually donate for the sake of charity with no other intentions would feel cheated.

By nomerci• 25 Oct 2010 21:23
nomerci

drmana, because one can make good money from it....people like to spend money for a "good" cause.

( I am NOT saying that any of the above mentioned events were like that)

Think about it...how many rich people give large amounts of money to charities to save on taxes? ;)

And how many charities do use ALL or at least the major amount of the money they are given for their causes? I would say you will be hard pressed to find a single one.

By britexpat• 25 Oct 2010 21:21
britexpat

To be perfectly honest, i am very surprised.

If the accusations are true, then personaly I think it is wrong. I am sure that the majority of people were of the opinion that all monies would go to charity.. And before I am corrected - How many of us attending charity events read the small print....

Nomerci, even charity?

Every other thing that can be called business at least doesn't label itself as charity I think.

Business is fine but why in the name of charity?

By nomerci• 25 Oct 2010 21:14

drmana...what IS NOT business nowadays?

Nothing in life is free.

ghazalz, I don't mean to create any controversy. Just wanted to know views of many people as not all can comment there :-)

By drmana• 25 Oct 2010 21:06

I agree both.

But is it right to publicize it as a charity event then?

You're very clever drmana ;)
