China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a Game Changer Project

China have long desired to have an access to the warm waters of Arabian Sea for the core purpose of opening a new yet high potential business link to the world. China has a very long sea route mostly passing through Singapore, which makes their international trade expensive and time consuming.

On the other hand, Russia (then Soviet Union and super power) too had the same desires and in 1979 it came in roaring, captured the entire Afghanistan (being the mid way country) and started a war on Pakistan to scissor out an access to the Arabian Sea via Pakistan.

However the Pak Forces then put up a formidable resistance, despite being small and enemy being the super power, and defeated the Russian forces after 10 years of war, which finally forced USSR to flee out of Afghanistan. While failing to have access to Pak warm waters, this humiliating defeat had shaken the very existence of USSR and as a result, it crumbled into several Central Asian Muslim majority independent states in 1991.

In this changing world, things are now changing faster, since Pakistan allowed China and other Central Asian countries to use its Gawadar seaport located on the Arabian Sea.

This project is called CPEC, which is now half way complete and ready for trial shipments from China to Gawadar to Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

Another salient feature of CPEC is that it shall give oil and other supplies to these countries via Gawador Sea port, thus arranging a game changing business for all these countries.

Dear Equin0x,

There is no doubt that China–Pakistan Economic Corridor project will result in the creation of direct jobs & add to the Pakistan's annual economic growth.

But your folkloric fantasy anecdote about "Pak Forces then put up a formidable resistance, despite being small and enemy being the super power, and defeated the Russian forces after 10 years of war, which finally forced USSR to flee out of Afghanistan" needs corroboration and verification.

Please validate the same ASAP.

Sheen and Brit,

Excellent positive input, which may enrich the politicians in the sub continent.

Pakistan understands that the good neighbors are surely beneficial, yet, it had been forced to go into wars every now and then, due to several uncontrolled factors. But now with the democratic govt. in place, sanity is prevailing which is why several mega projects like CPEC are in the offing, which are widely being believed to change the entire politics of the region.

France and England fought for 100 years and yet saw the benefit in bcoming partners

Germany fought two world wars and is now at peace with its neighbours

Vietnam and USA fought and lost millions, yet have now seen the light

India and Pakistan - having the same roots and similar cultures cannot put their differences behind them. Each side uses propoganda and mis information to brain wash its peoples .

A starting point for all is that neither side is 100% right or 100% innocent

India, Pak and Aghanistan too are on board to use the Central Asian and Iranian surplus Gas via pipelines passing through Pakistan, which shall integrate the whole region.

Russia too has signed an agreement to lay a gas pipeline from the Arabian sea to uplands of Pakistan, which is yet another landmark project in the offing.

"We have seen that war on spot" but it can't be backed by any sort of evidence or proof.

And all the historical data was blown away by the Made In Pakistan "Stinger Missiles".

Meanwhile in those days the Afghan Mujaheddin use to sell Halwa puri in by-lanes of Lahore.

Along side the CPEC route, the govt. has planned several "Free Industrial Zones" in order to add up more vigor to this project.

We have seen that war on spot, and seen Pakistani soldiers firing shoulder mounting "Stinger Missiles" thereby destroying the gunships of Russia on the Pak/Afghan mountains. After loosing so many helicopters and troops, they virtually became helpless on how to fight on with the Pak Army on these rugged mountains.

On a lighter note, here is also an example:

One person, before buying a gun from a tribal on the Pak/Afghan border, asked to see the test proof of gun. The weapon shopkeeper told him, to stand at a distance of 20 meters so that he could fire on him, in order to show him the proof of its power.

Dear Equin0x,

Please explain with proof the point "the Pak Forces then put up a formidable resistance"

Please don't give references of "Sir" Syed Zaid Zaman Hamid the great "Defense Analyst" of Pakistan, even his ex-wife, Suckeena Biwi could't bear him.

Tapi and Casa projects are in addition to CPEC, under which, Central Asian states would supply gas and electricity to Pak industries, and in lieu of that, Pakistan would allow them to use its Arabian sea ports for all kinds of out going and in bound trade.

Pakistan's geographical location is similar to Singapore or Suez Canal, as it allows Russia, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan to do competitive transit trade via Pakistan.
