What the hell is that why we have to pay for parking?!!!
We must boycott City Center till they take it back
We do not have to accept anything thy come up with to increase revenue this is not justified by any mean.

i go there every other day or so, around 2-3 pm. there are plenty of available spots.. if you come around 12 noon, you can chose the spot you like.. but closer to 7 it is next to impossible to find one.. after 8 pm, simply forget about it..

Endurancejk, this is BS. During the day parking in CC is half empty. Craziness starts after 7PM. I don't think most of people park their cars to go to the offices from 7 pm to midnight.

CC is full all the time.

i was there today.. they set the gates and barriers for getting tickets and making payment, but today the parking was still free.. you do everything like if you will pay, and eventually get away free.. kind of rehearsal..

Don't care...hardly ever go there anyway.

By timebandit• 3 Jul 2011 11:35

Park and Ride would be a solution. This is where you park in a large parking lot not too far away, and a free shuttle bus moves you to and from the destination. However I am happy to pay these rates if it means I can arrive and park without the stress of fighting for a space. If I still have to do battle and I am getting charged for it, then it could spell the end of me and City Centre.

The problem is two-fold. First, a lot of people have always used City Center to park their car and walk to work in the surrounding area. Second, that car park is far too small anyway just for the mall, let alone to provide parking for other businesses in the area.

I wonder when the geniuses of the country will finally catch on with the concept of "multi level car parks"! All the parking I have seen here is spread out over flat ground. Imagine adding 2-3 level parking?

Villaggio is impossible to park on a Thursday or Friday as well. It has to be one of the worst laid out parking areas as well. So many "choke points" to traffic that its often sat at a standstill with people simply trying to leave.

prabos, it has nothing to do with working people.. you can find a lot of spots during working hours, and you can never ever find any available spot after 7 PM. paying for 3 hours about 10 QAR would be fair enough..

By anonymous• 27 Jun 2011 23:40

Darude, since some don't get it - we probably should raise the fees even further.

ingeniero,

Do you really think charging a few riyals will scare people away? The only people who will gain from this will be the owners of City Centre.

By ingeniero• 27 Jun 2011 13:28

yup.. for those who are just moving around.. buying nothing... and keeping the parking fu;;.. better for them..

there's an opportunity for rent-a-driver there.

yes, but if you get out within 2hrs and get back in the next minute and wait for 2 more hours you will be paying only QR 10/-

By abo_hamdi• 27 Jun 2011 12:28

Is it mean if I spend 3 hours it will be (2+3+10=15 QR)?

Should be interesting. Drivers will be leaving before the third hour and then returning again..

By glecs• 27 Jun 2011 12:16

with or without parking fess, people will come. i dont think it will ease the parking issues there. in the beginning people will hesitate and those working in the nearby buildings will avoid parking there but later on with the growing number of cars and expats here, the scenario will still be the same... and it will again take us an hour just to get a parking slot :(

By ingeniero• 27 Jun 2011 12:03

thats great.. less ppl, less cars, more parking space, no moving round and round in parking..

Great! Now we will not only have to queue up and drive round in circles to park but we will also have to pay for the privilege.

They designed City Centre Mall with inadequate parking and now they've found a way to make money out of it.

2QR First hour

3QR Second

10QR for any extra hour

For me it does not matter how much I can pay with no problem but I'm against the concept and I consider it an abuse.

Guys if they aimed to prevent people from just parking there they could have done that in many other ways for instance some malls gives u free parking if you have a receipt that you bought stuff for a certain amount of money that day (which is reasonable and means ur here for shopping) but this is just abuse especially for people who attend there to go to the cinemas or fun city with their kids like me and they have to spend a good amount of time.
