I find this denial of a booze permit by the company childish. He doesn't want them to drink the alcohol, just allow him access to it on a personal basis.
Regarding being able to buy booze in the duty free going out but not being allowed to bring it into the state I see as a bit stupid.
Even Kuwait were more tolerant in the late 70's when customs unofficially allowed the import of approximately 3 bottles per adult (providing you declared it) when the country was totally dry (unless you count the milk stout that was fed to KOC hospital patients as medicine).
PS. Do you know who is the third largest importer of Johhny Walkers?
Your company is probably taking some moral stance. I know for a fact of many muslims with licenses. But you are absolutely correct, if your company doesnt give you a salary certificate, then you cant apply. QDC have no problem with muslims applying.
I have only said what was told by my company to our Employees and Some with US Passports were denied the company letter on this ground..I have stated the facts as I know them..and What I know may not be 100%...
Sorry tg1234, but it doesnt matter what religion you are if you want a liqour license. Only qataris (and maybe GCC nationals) are not entitled to obtain one. In fact, its about the most straightforward process in the whole of doha. hand in a form, your salary certificate and 1000 riyal deposit and within 5 minutes its done.
Though you can buy alcohol at Doha Duty Free, you are not allowed to bring it into the country.
IF you are Muslim, You are not entitled for Liquour License..But you can still try the bars at Ramada and other Hotels..They usually dont ask for your ID...
If you are not a Muslim, You can get a liquor license through QDC...
So, I Guess i will not have fun living in Qatar.... No CLUBS.....
WHat about liqueur? can you buy it if you want, and what about personal consumption can you bring with you from the DUty free few littres? and how much?
There are a few places but theres not much choice if youre a party animal. People tend to stick to compound barbeques and private parties. Things are sloooowly changing though. problem is ill be too old by then :)

Several threads in 'Socialising' on this topic. But briefly, try Sheraton, Ramada, Marriot and Rydges bars plus Garveys and the Rugby Club.
